Kärcher HDS 10/21-4 M Hot Water High-Pressure Cleaner
Description
A middle-class hot water cleaner with the highest pressure in the series
The Kärcher HDS 10/21-4 M is described by Kärcher as a user-friendly, powerful hot water high-pressure cleaner with a four-pole, water-cooled electric motor, economical eco!efficiency mode and two detergent tanks. In the HDS electric line it carries the highest printed working pressure among the HDS models compared below, 210 bar, at a flow of 500 to 1000 litres per hour.
That pressure-led profile is well matched to adhered soiling: oil films on machinery, hardened grease on floors, tyre and track dirt, and residues on fabricated steel before inspection or recoating. The frame and burner are shared with the other 1330 mm HDS machines, so the unit is easily recognised and serviced alongside them.

Efficiency features and equipment
In eco!efficiency mode the machine operates at about 60 °C with full water flow, and the burner cycles are optimised to reduce fuel consumption by 20 percent compared with full load. The printed figures reflect this: 7.3 kg/h at full load and 5.8 kg/h in eco!efficiency mode.
Kärcher supplies an EASY!Force Advanced gun with Servo Control, a 10 m Longlife hose (DN 8, 400 bar), a 1050 mm lance and a power nozzle. The equipment list adds ANTI!Twist, a 20 plus 10 litre detergent function with two tanks, a control bar with display light, pressure cut-off, a pole reverse plug and dry-running protection. An additional storage compartment is provided for accessories.

Choosing within the HDS electric range
Pick the HDS 10/21-4 M for pressure-driven work on a 400 V supply without the weight of the super-class frame: at 160 kg it is about 30 to 46 kg lighter than the HDS 12/18-4 S and HDS 13/20-4 S. The comparison below uses Kärcher figures.
| Kärcher model | Flow rate (l/h) | Working pressure (bar) | Water temperature | Drive and load |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HDS 10/21-4 M (this page) | 500 – 1000 | 30 – 210 | min. 80 – max. 155 °C | Electric, 8 kW, 160.2 kg |
| HDS 7/16 C | 270 – 660 | 30 – 160 | max. 80 °C | Electric, 4.7 kW, 98 kg |
| HDS 12/18-4 S | 500 – 1200 | 30 – 180 | min. 80 – max. 155 °C | Electric, 8 kW, 190 kg |
| HDS-E 8/16-4 M 36 kW | 300 – 760 | 30 – 160 | min. 58 – max. 85 °C | Electric heating, 41.5 kW, 123.5 kg |
Setting up the machine on site
Place the HDS 10/21-4 M on firm, level ground in a well-ventilated area, because the oil-fired burner produces exhaust gases that must not collect in enclosed workshops, wash bays without extraction or near air intakes. Keep the exhaust outlet clear of walls, vehicles and stored materials. Connect it to a three-phase 400 V supply protected according to the connected load and local wiring rules, with a residual current device as the site requires, and route the power cable where it cannot be driven over or lie in standing water.
Check the water supply can deliver the flow the machine needs and that the supply hose is clean before connection. Fill the fuel tank only with the fuel type stated in the Kärcher operating instructions, and fill the detergent tanks with products that Kärcher or the chemical supplier confirms are suitable for the pump and hose.
First start and operator instruction
Since Kärcher states the machine requires instruction, plan a handover session for every operator before regular use. Cover start-up and shutdown, selecting cold, hot and eco!efficiency operation, adjusting pressure and flow with Servo Control, using the detergent function, and the safe handling of hot water and high-pressure jets. Demonstrate the correct nozzle for each task and the minimum distance to keep from sensitive surfaces such as seals, electrical components and painted panels.
During the first run, check for leaks at the hose and gun connections, confirm that the burner ignites and the water reaches the selected temperature, and watch the control panel for any warning indications. Record the hours or date of commissioning for the maintenance log.
Operating in Oman heat, dust and hard water
Many sites in Oman and the GCC use water with a high mineral content, which can lead to scale build-up in heated water systems over time. Ask Kärcher or a service partner for guidance on suitable water treatment and scale prevention for the local supply, and follow the maintenance intervals in the operating instructions.
In hot, dusty yards and workshops, keep the machine in the shade when not in use, keep the fuel cap and detergent tank caps closed to stop sand entering, and wipe dust from the motor cooling areas and control panel. Do not leave hoses lying in direct sun for long periods, and inspect them for abrasion where they have been dragged across rough concrete or gravel.
Routine maintenance
Before each shift, inspect the high-pressure hose, gun, lance and nozzle for damage and check fuel and detergent levels. Replace worn nozzles, as a worn nozzle reduces cleaning performance. Arrange periodic burner and pump servicing with a qualified technician according to the Kärcher schedule.
Documents and quotation
The Kärcher product information sheet is attached as the datasheet. Before ordering, confirm the three-phase supply, the fuel type, burner ventilation and the detergents intended for use, since not every chemical suits the pump and hose.
