Elkhart Brass HF-500 Hydro-Foam Self-Educting Foam Nozzle

Description

Foam from a nozzle with no separate proportioner

The Elkhart Brass HF-500 Hydro-Foam is a self-educting foam nozzle: it draws foam concentrate in through a pick-up hose and a built-in metering device and discharges foam solution, so no separate foam mixing equipment is needed for a mobile or monitor-mounted foam attack. It is rated for 500 gpm (1900 LPM) at 100 psi (7 bar) with a 2.5 in NH female swivel inlet, and the stream pattern is adjusted under flow from 90 degree wide fog to straight jet.

Elkhart states it suits Class A and Class B foams including AR-AFFF, AFFF, FFF and fluoroprotein concentrates, and it is UL Listed. A clear vinyl pick-up hose 9 ft (2.7 m) long is included.

Reach figures in the data sheet are for water only; Elkhart notes foam streams reach about 10 percent less, and that add-on percentages of 1, 3 and 6 percent should be added to flow for the total foam solution flow.

Metering and accessories

The HF nozzles are factory set with a 3 percent metering washer, and 0.5 percent and 1 percent washers are supplied so the rate can be changed in the shop or station by removing the inlet nipple and swapping the washer. The nozzle will pick up foam with as little as 50 psi even though it is rated at 100 psi. Elkhart sells a quick-connect coupling for the pick-up hose, a quarter-turn shut-off valve and a metering valve, as well as drum pick-up kits that pre-connect the foam inlet to a drum or tote.

As with any foam appliance, flush the foam lines with clean water after each use, and lubricate the tip cam periodically with a light petroleum-based grease.

Confirm before ordering

The metering device sets the foam percentage, and the instruction sheet explains how to select 0.5, 1 or 3 percent for the concentrate in use. Always confirm that the selected percentage matches the concentrate manufacturer recommendation for the hazard, and flush the pick-up hose and nozzle with clean water after use so that dried concentrate does not block the metering passages.

Confirm the concentrate type and percentage, finish (brass or chrome plated; aluminium also exists), pick-up accessories and the monitor outlet. Check local requirements for foam use. The attached Elkhart data sheet gives dimensions and reach. Send your details for a quotation and see more Fire Fighting equipment.

About brand

Elkhart Brass is an American manufacturer of firefighting nozzles, monitors and valves, founded in 1902 in Elkhart, Indiana, by Norwegian immigrant Albert E. Hansen. It started with straight bore tips, wyes, siamese and standpipe connections, and in 1936 introduced the Mystery nozzle, America's first peripheral jet fog nozzle. Elkhart Brass still operates at its original site with an in-house brass and aluminium foundry and has been part of Safe Fleet since 2015.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list selected Elkhart Brass monitors and nozzles with the technical data published by the manufacturer, for fire protection contractors and plant fire teams in Oman and the GCC.
