Finder 78.Y1.1.230.2412 24 V 480 W Single-Phase Power Supply
Description
Active-PFC supply for large single-phase 24 V panels
The Finder 78.Y1.1.230.2412 is a switch mode supply for single-phase industrial panels. Its output is 24 V DC at 20 A, rated 480 W, fed from mains of 100 to 240 V AC. A double-stage design with active power factor correction gives a power factor of 0.90 or higher and an efficiency of 92% at 230 V AC. It is the larger of the 78.X1 (240 W) and 78.Y1 pair in the datasheet and mounts on 35 mm rail.
Finder quotes a boost of up to 30% for 3 seconds and a 26 A peak lasting 5 ms, hiccup-mode short-circuit protection with automatic recovery, thermal protection with automatic shutdown and a varistor for overvoltage. Compliance is stated with IEC/EN 62368-1 and UL 61010.

Planning a 20 A rail
Twenty amperes at 24 V can carry valve islands, several I/O racks, drive control supplies and banks of contactors. Add the continuous current of every load and keep margin, and check the output derating diagram for the cabinet temperature, since the rated current applies up to +50 C. Where the feeder breaker is small, note the maximum input current of 2.4 A at 230 V AC and the 35 A inrush. For redundancy the datasheet specifies an external diode in a parallel arrangement.
Wiring and installation
The unit is 85.5 mm wide, so allow for it on the rail and keep ventilation clearance above and below. A stand-by consumption of 6 W is worth counting for panels that remain powered all year. The 1.5 second start-up delay at full load should be considered in the power-up sequence of controllers fed from this rail. The output voltage can be trimmed from 24 to 28 V to compensate cable drop to remote loads.
How the Finder 78.Y1.1.230.2412 works
The supply takes mains of 100 to 240 V AC and converts it to a stable 24 V DC output. In the first stage, active power factor correction pulls the input current into step with the voltage, which gives a power factor of 0.90 or higher. In the second stage, a switching converter makes the 24 V output and holds it steady when the load changes. The output can be trimmed from 24 to 28 V DC. If the output is shorted, the supply goes into hiccup mode and restarts by itself when the fault clears.
Where the Finder 78.Y1.1.230.2412 is used
- Control panels with many I/O racks
- Valve islands and banks of contactors
- Drive control supplies
- Machine builders with a single 24 V rail of up to 20 A
- Panels fed from 100 to 240 V AC mains in different countries
Selection checklist for the Finder 78.Y1.1.230.2412
- Total continuous load current, with margin, up to 20 A
- Peak and start-up current of the loads, against the 26 A boost for 3 seconds
- Cabinet temperature, with the derating diagram above 50 degrees C
- Mains range and the input breaker size
- Inrush current of 35 A peak at 230 V AC
- Hold-up time of 16 ms during mains dips
- Space on the rail, 85.5 mm wide and 134.3 mm deep
- Terminals and wire size
Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes
Clip the supply onto a 35 mm rail with free space above and below for the air to flow. Protect the input with a breaker of the right size, and connect the earth. Check the output voltage with no load and with a full load. Keep the wires short and tight in the box clamp terminals. Look at the temperature in the cabinet from time to time, because heat is the main factor in the life of a supply.

About brand
Finder is an Italian manufacturer of relays, timers, power supplies and other electromechanical and electronic devices, founded in 1954 and headquartered in Almese, in the Susa Valley of Piedmont. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists Finder modular contactors, safety relays and DIN rail power supplies for control panels, building services and machine automation.
Relay, contactor and power supply families
The range runs from step relays and modular contactors to safety relays with forcibly guided contacts and switch mode power supplies for 35 mm rail. Each series has a datasheet with ordering codes, coil data, contact ratings, derating curves and approvals, so a part can be specified or replaced by its full type code rather than by series name alone.
Ordering Finder products: what we need
Quote the complete ordering code, including coil voltage and contact variant, together with the quantity, the supply voltage and frequency of the installation and any approvals the project requires. With that information the matching Finder version can be confirmed against the datasheet before a quotation is issued.
