Brand:

Streamlight Dualie 3AA Laser ATEX Zone 0 Flashlight

Description

A Zone 0 flashlight with a built-in red laser pointer

Where the standard Dualie pairs a spot and a flood LED, the Streamlight Dualie 3AA Laser ATEX pairs a forward LED with a red laser pointer. The laser lets the user mark a valve, pipe tag or a point on a structure from a distance and call it out to a colleague or a control room, even where the LED beam would wash out the target.

The LED gives 150 lumens and 7,700 candela with a 175 m beam. The laser is red, 640 to 650 nm, under 5 mW, classified as a Class 3R laser. Both functions have their own push buttons on opposite sides of the head and can run alone or together.

Laser safety and certification notes

A Class 3R laser can injure the eye if the beam is viewed directly, so it should be treated as a pointing tool and never aimed at people or reflective surfaces. The 640 to 650 nm red output stays under 5 mW, which is the printed limit on the fact sheet. Include laser safety in the toolbox briefing on any site that issues this model.

The ATEX certificate covers the Dualie 3AA and the Dualie 3AA Laser together. The T-class is T4 with Energizer L91, Duracell MN1500 or Rayovac NO.815 and T3 with Energizer E91 or Panasonic LR6XP and LR6XWA. Only the ATEX item 68765 is listed on the current information sheet, so request the InMetro variant by name if it is needed.

When the laser is the better choice

Pick the Laser version for supervisors, inspectors and trainers who must point out locations during walk-downs, and the standard Dualie where the downward flood beam is more valuable for safe footing. The fact sheet gives the Laser model’s LED 17 hours of run time against 18 hours for the standard model’s spot or flood.

Helmet clamps are the optional accessory on the fact sheet; accessory item numbers sit on the information sheet.

Choosing cells and setting up the Dualie 3AA Laser for issue

Before the light goes to a crew, decide which battery brand the store will hold, because the temperature class on the certificate depends on it. If the area classification on your plant calls for T4, stock only the cells that the certificate lists for T4 and label the store bin so that a technician cannot swap in a different brand during a shift. Where T3 is acceptable, the wider list of alkaline cells gives more freedom, but the rule still applies: mixed brands, mixed ages or partly used cells should never go into the same body.

Lithium AA cells reduce the carried mass from 193 g to 167 g, which matters for inspectors who carry the light on a helmet clamp for a full day. Alkaline cells are easier to source in most Omani towns, so many sites keep alkaline as the default and lithium for long rope-access or confined-space jobs.

First use and function check

  • Load the three cells with the polarity shown in the operating instructions and close the tail cap fully so the gasket seats evenly.
  • Test the LED head switch in both momentary and constant modes, then test the laser switch on its own and with the LED running.
  • Point the laser at a matt wall a few metres away to confirm a clean spot before the light is issued.
  • Record the item number 68765 and the cell brand fitted in the tool register.

Care, battery changes and fault finding

Change cells outside the hazardous area. The body is gasket sealed and vented, so check the gasket for grit, cuts or flattening at every battery change and wipe the threads clean; fine sand that sticks to the seal is the most common reason for a light losing its IP67 performance. The case is chemical resistant, but clean it with water and a mild detergent rather than solvents, and let it dry before storage.

If the LED flickers or the laser spot fades long before the run times on the fact sheet, the usual causes are weak or mismatched cells, corrosion on the contacts, or a loose tail cap. Replace all three cells together, inspect the contacts, and retest. A light that has been dropped hard, has a cracked lens or a damaged laser window should be taken out of service and not repaired in the field, because any repair can affect the ATEX approval.

Using a laser pointer on Omani and GCC sites

Plant walk-downs in Oman often take place in strong daylight, where the 640 to 650 nm red spot is easier to see on shaded pipework and inside pipe racks than in open sun. In tank farms, compressor stations and offshore modules, the laser lets one person stay on a safe platform and mark a flange for another person at grade, which cuts the amount of climbing in high heat.

Heat inside parked vehicles in summer can shorten cell life, so keep spare cells and lights in a shaded tool store, not on a dashboard. On coastal sites around Sohar, Duqm and Salalah, rinse salt spray off the body after use and dry the threads before reassembly. Brief every user that a Class 3R beam must not be pointed at glass, polished steel or a coworker’s face.

Documents and quotation

The attached Streamlight documents are the fact sheet and the information sheet with item numbers, and the operating instructions. Confirm that a laser pointer is permitted by the site’s safety rules, and the battery brand for the temperature class, before you order. Mention the laser-safety rules of the site and the quantity so the right item can be quoted. More lighting and electrical items are listed under Electrical & Power.

About brand

Streamlight is a manufacturer of professional flashlights, headlamps, lanterns and scene lights based in Eagleville, Pennsylvania, USA. The company traces its current form to 1973 and has more than 50 years of experience in lighting for firefighting, industrial, law enforcement and military users.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Streamlight hazardous-area and industrial lights for oil and gas, petrochemical and plant maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.

Streamlight product series

ATEX and IECEx rated flashlights include the 2AA and 2AAA ProPolymer HAZ-LO for zone 0, the Dualie 3AA family with dual beam, laser and Color-Rite versions and the rechargeable Dualie, the Survivor, Survivor X and Survivor Pivot right-angle lights, and the Stylus and Stylus Reach penlights for zone 1. Headlamps include the 3AA HAZ-LO and Enduro Pro HAZ-LO.

Lanterns and area lights include the Vulcan 180 HAZ-LO rechargeable lantern for zone 0, the Vulcan LED for zone 2, the E-Flood LiteBox, the Super Siege lantern and the Syclone magnetic work light for unclassified areas.

Where Streamlight lights are used

Inspection and maintenance in refineries, gas plants, tank farms and offshore facilities, confined space entry, emergency response and general plant work. Marking, zone, gas group and temperature class differ by model and by the battery fitted, so the certificate and product label must match the area classification.

Ordering Streamlight lights: what we need

Send the five-digit item number with the charger voltage or plug type, colour and quantity. For hazardous-area lights state the zone, gas group and temperature class required, because item numbers vary by certification, voltage and package.
