Streamlight Vulcan 180 HAZ-LO ATEX Zone 0 Rechargeable Lantern

Description

A rechargeable Zone 0 lantern with a 180-degree tilting head

The Streamlight Vulcan 180 HAZ-LO ATEX is a carry lantern for emergency response and plant work in explosive atmospheres. Three white LEDs behind deep-dish parabolic reflectors give 450 lumens and 25,000 candela on high, reaching 316 m, and 130 lumens on low for 30 hours. The head tilts through 180 degrees and locks in the forward position, so the lantern can light the work from a hand-carried, shoulder-slung or floor-standing position.

Two ultra-bright blue LEDs at the rear act as safety taillights, giving rear visibility to colleagues and vehicles. A large tactile push button operates the light with gloves; one press selects high, and press and hold selects low. The housing is a high-impact nylon in safety yellow or safety orange with a rubberised cushion-grip handle.

Certificate conditions worth noting

The ATEX certificate states the marking as II 1G Ex ia IIC T4 Ga with an ambient range of -20 C to +40 C, and says the device may only be charged in a non-hazardous environment. Charging therefore needs a designated safe-area station, usually a vehicle or a workshop, rather than a spot on the process unit.

The standard system includes the quick-install charging rack with both AC and DC chargers, and the vehicle mount system includes a heavy-duty direct-wire cord. The fact sheet lists optional charge cords for 100, 120, 230 and 240 V AC and 12 V DC.

Comparing the Vulcan lanterns

The Vulcan 180 HAZ-LO is the Zone 0, IIC choice in the Vulcan range, whereas the Vulcan LED ATEX is marked for Zone 2 and Zone 22. The Vulcan Clutch has a clamping handle and a rotating head but no hazardous-area rating on its fact sheet.

Typical uses are rescue and fire-ground lighting, shutdown and turnaround walk-downs, and lighting a vessel entry point. Because the rack fits the same footprint as other Streamlight lanterns, a mixed fleet can share charging positions.

About brand

Streamlight is an American manufacturer of professional flashlights, headlamps, lanterns and scene lights. The business was set up in 1973 near Philadelphia by investor Harry French around a high-intensity light that grew out of a solar simulator built for NASA. Streamlight moved to its present 240,000 square foot headquarters and plant in Eagleville, Pennsylvania, in 2001.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Streamlight hazardous-area and industrial lights for oil and gas, petrochemical and plant maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.

Where Streamlight lights are used

Inspection and maintenance in refineries, gas plants, tank farms and offshore facilities, confined space entry, emergency response and general plant work. Marking, zone, gas group and temperature class differ by model and by the battery fitted, so the certificate and product label must match the area classification.
