SICK UC4-13347 UC4 Ultrasonic Distance Sensor, 0-10 V

UC4-13347 is a SICK UC4 ultrasonic distance sensor (part no. 6054709). It measures the distance to an object from the travel time of a sound pulse and reports it as voltage output (0 V … 10 V, ≥ 100,000 Ω). Operating range, limiting range: 20 mm … 150 mm, 250 mm; response time 24 ms; connection Male connector, M8, 3-pin.

Distance measurement with the UC4-13347

They are used for level in open tanks and hoppers, roll diameter, loop control and pallet or stack height, where clear, glossy or wet surfaces would upset an optical sensor. Air temperature changes the speed of sound, which is why the data sheets list a temperature drift or built-in compensation; check which applies if the air is not at room temperature. Soft, strongly angled or very small targets reflect poorly, and foam, cloth or loose granules can absorb the pulse, so test the real target before committing.

On the UC4-13347 the resolution is ≥ 0.1 mm, repeatability ± 0.15 %, accuracy ± 1 % and the output time is 8 ms. The ultrasonic frequency is typically 380 kHz. Configurable functions: adjustable operating modes: Switching point (DtO) / Switching window/Background (ObSB), teach-in of digital output, invertable digital output, teach-in button(s) (can be deactivated), reset to factory default.

The unit runs from DC 15 V … 30 V and carries IP65 / IP67 protection; ambient temperature in operation is –25 °C … +70 °C. Current draw is ≤ 0.75 W. The body measures 16 mm x 40.1 mm x 16.7 mm and weighs 10 g. Indication: 2 x LED. Protect the transducer face from mechanical damage and aggressive cleaning agents, and keep it free of condensation or build-up. Allow for the sound cone: keep fixed brackets and pipes outside it, or mask them in the controller where the sensor allows it.
