Brand: Gorman-Rupp
Gorman-Rupp SF4C SF Series Submersible Solids-Handling Pump
Description
The Gorman-Rupp SF4C is a 4 inch submersible solids-handling pump from the SF Series, rated 1850 GPM at up to 142 ft head with a 50 HP (37 kW) motor and a 3 inch spherical solids passage. It is a wet-well sewage and effluent pump for lift stations, industrial drainage and process water, where a high-head submersible is preferred over a dry-pit installation.
What the SF Series offers
All SF Series models use NEMA premium efficiency motors (IEC IE3) press-fitted into a patented finned housing that extracts heat, with Class H insulation as standard. Moisture and temperature sensors sit on each motor phase to reduce the risk of costly damage, and a dual-chamber mechanical seal arrangement, heavy-duty ball bearings, stainless steel lifting bail and field-replaceable terminal housing and motor cable complete the package. Flanges are ANSI 125 lb or DIN as standard, so the pump can match existing guide shoes. Each pump is built to order: the impeller trim is chosen for the duty point and the motor is sized to match.

Installation options and controls
SF Series pumps can be permanent on a guide rail, semi-permanent on a base elbow, portable on a stand or in a dry pit. Guide shoes carry a rubber seal so discharge flow does not depend on a metal-to-metal fit, and all guide rail systems use 2 inch rail. Gorman-Rupp offers control panels with across-the-line starters, NEMA 3R rating, adjustable seal-fail relays, optional high-water alarms and floats, in simplex or duplex form, with optional intrinsically safe panels on some horsepower sizes, plus Integrinex controls. The pump can also be placed in a ReliaSource above-ground submersible valve package station, which the brochure describes as NFPA 820 compliant.
Other 4 inch models for comparison
| Model | Max capacity | Max head | Motor HP (kW) |
|---|---|---|---|
| SF4A | 1260 GPM | 71 ft | 15, 20, 24 |
| SF4B | 1440 GPM | 85 ft | 30 |
| SF4C | 1850 GPM | 142 ft | 50 |
| SF4D | 1680 GPM | 172 ft | 75 |
Impeller options include vortex and extreme-duty vortex impellers for efficiency with solids to 3 inch, enclosed impellers, and continuous single-vane impellers in Eradicator Plus models. Check cable length, liquid temperature and area classification with the manufacturer.
Duty point in other units (derived)
Unit conversions below are calculated from the printed maximum values and are not manufacturer statements.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Maximum capacity | 1850 GPM = 117 lps = 421 m3/h (lps x 3.6) |
| Maximum head | 142 ft = 43 m = about 4.2 bar of water column |
| Capacity x head (derived) | about 18112 m4/h |
For wet-well design the 4 inch SF models share a common footprint pattern, so a station can start with one size and be upgraded within the family; the literature notes that every pump is built to order against an impeller trim. Provide cable length, voltage and frequency, the required guide-rail system and any hazardous-area need with the enquiry. The brochure also describes a warranty offered on ReliaSource packaged systems, separate from the pump-only warranty above.
Ordering notes and support
Every SF Series pump is built to order, so a quotation needs the duty point, impeller trim, voltage, frequency and cable length. Manuals, performance curves and outline drawings in PDF and CAD format are available through the manufacturer. The brochure also lists the Integrinex Standard, Remote View and Advanced control levels for stations; Advanced systems include soft starters or variable frequency drives and, in new ReliaSource stations, FloSmart technology that can detect a pump obstruction and run a cleaning cycle.
For comparison, the SF4D in the same range reaches 172 ft but at a lower 1680 GPM with a 75 HP motor, whereas the SF4C gives the higher flow at 142 ft with 50 HP, so duty point and motor size decide between them.
