Alicat BM-100SCCM BASIS 2.0 Mass Flow Meter 100 SCCM

The Alicat BM-100SCCM is a compact BASIS 2.0 thermal mass flow meter with a 100 SCCM full scale. The body measures 2.70 x 0.88 x 1.55 inches (68.6 x 22.2 x 39.4 mm) and weighs about 4.0 oz (116 g), with a pressure drop of only 0.2 mbar at full scale and 1/8 inch NPT female or SAE 4 ports.

A palm-sized meter for OEM and bench gas lines

BASIS 2.0 is Alicat’s compact line for built-in use. It has no display; a status LED shows power, serial activity and error, and the instrument is read over RS-232 or RS-485 with an optional 0-5 Vdc or 4-20 mA analog output on the 6-pin JST GH connector. The data update rate is as fast as 176 Hz depending on baud rate and system.

Accuracy for 100 SCCM to 1 SLPM on air, N2, O2 and CH4 is 1.5 % of reading or 0.5 % of full scale, whichever is greater, with wider figures for He, H2, Ar, CO2 and N2O as listed in the sheet. Control and measurement range is 0.1 to 100 % of full scale (1,000:1).

Selection and ordering guide

The BASIS 2.0 sheet covers 100 SCCM to 20 SLPM in the compact bodies and 50 to 100 SLPM in larger bodies; the BM prefix marks the meter, and BASIS controllers have a valve. Choose the gas first: accuracy differs between the gas groups shown in the sheet.

Decide between RS-232 and RS-485 and between the 0-5 Vdc and 4-20 mA analog options at order time.

Commissioning is simplest with the Alicat tools named on its page and a USB-to-serial converter, which let you read the nine stored gases, change the reference conditions and test the analog output before installing the meter into an enclosure.

Installation and operation notes

The BASIS 2 manual specifies that the flow body is mounted horizontally with the flow arrow parallel to the line, uses in-line sintered filters where pressure drop allows, and needs no straight pipe runs. Only connect power to pin 4 of the JST GH connector, as the manual warns, and avoid powering the unit until all connections are checked.

There is no front display, so plan a serial terminal or the free tools Alicat lists on its page (FlowVision 2) for commissioning.

Applications in Oman and the GCC

A palm-sized meter fits gas analyser sample lines, gas chromatograph supply and purge lines, small furnace and reactor feeds and OEM skids where space and weight matter. The sheet limits it to 0 to 145 PSIG operation and IP40 enclosures, so install it inside a cabinet.
