Alicat M-2000SLPM Gas Mass Flow Meter 2000 SLPM

The Alicat M-2000SLPM is a gas mass flow meter with a 2000 SLPM full scale, part of the high-flow M/MB-Series sheet that runs from 50 to 12,000 SLPM. At 2000 SLPM the sheet gives a 5.0 PSID pressure drop, 3/4 inch NPT female ports, a 5.20 x 2.90 x 5.29 inch body and a weight of about 4.5 lb (2.0 kg).

A high-flow laminar DP meter for plant-scale gas lines

The M-Series uses a laminar flow element with on-board absolute pressure and temperature sensing, so one instrument reports mass flow, volumetric flow, pressure and temperature. The 2000 SLPM size sits in the middle of the high-flow range, between 1000 SLPM (6.0 PSID) and 3000 SLPM (7.1 PSID), with the same 0.8 % of reading plus 0.2 % of full scale accuracy.

The high-accuracy option is limited to models up to 500 SLPM, so the 2000 SLPM unit is a standard-accuracy device. Flow range is 0.01 to 100 % of full scale (10,000:1 turndown), and the meter holds 98 NIST-based gas property tables plus 20 mixes.

Choose the size so that normal flow falls in the upper part of the range for best accuracy; neighbouring sizes on the sheet are 1000, 3000 and 5000 SLPM. If pressure drop is critical, Alicat points to its WHISPER MW range, which this site also lists as MW-500SLPM.

Alicat offers a portable MB-Series version of the same meter with a rechargeable battery and Bluetooth Low Energy; the MB-2000SLPM top-level number exists on the Alicat page. Analog outputs are not available on MB units.

Compressed-air audits and compressor acceptance tests are typical uses: the meter gives mass flow normalised to standard conditions, so comparisons between sites at different altitudes and temperatures remain consistent. The reference conditions are user configurable, with 25 degC and 1 atm as the default standard, so you should confirm which reference your specification uses before comparing against another instrument.

Installation and operation notes

The Alicat M-series manual says no straight runs of pipe are required upstream or downstream and the meter works in any position because it is internally compensated for orientation. Use in-line sintered filters of no more than 50 microns where pressure drop allows.

Ensure the pipework can handle the 5.0 PSID drop, and avoid rapid pressure changes above 75 PSI differential.
