ABB 100 ULTRA pH/ORP analog sensor
Description
Overview
The ABB 100 ULTRA is a high-performance analog pH/ORP sensor designed for low-conductivity water within ABB’s 100-series family, with a high-volume electrolyte chamber and a large porous PTFE junction. Where the 100 GP and 100E are sized for routine and space-constrained applications respectively, the 100 ULTRA is the choice when the water has low conductivity.
Seven Star LLC supplies the ABB 100 ULTRA sensor to industrial operators across Oman and the wider GCC as an experienced supply partner for genuine ABB instrumentation. Every unit is supplied on request with manufacturer documentation, and supported locally with application guidance for demanding process chemistries.
Operating Principle
The 100 ULTRA measures pH or ORP through a glass-membrane or metal electrode paired with an advanced reference system, generating a standard analog signal fully compatible with existing transmitters and control systems – preserving the integration simplicity of ABB’s 100-series while adding a design for low-conductivity water. Its design suits low-conductivity water measurement.
The sensor has no electrolyte to top up, which reduces the maintenance usually associated with pure water applications. This reduces maintenance effort in low-conductivity water applications.
Engineering Design of the ABB 100 ULTRA
Built for low-conductivity water such as boiler water, the 100 ULTRA’s electrolyte and junction design is the key differentiator within the 100-series lineup – the same general sensor architecture as the 100 GP, but with a junction and electrolyte system selected for low-conductivity water.
Plug-and-play installation design ensures quick deployment and easy calibration despite the sensor’s upgraded materials, so plants gain the durability benefit without a more complex commissioning process than the standard-duty 100 GP would require. Confirm suitability for the measurement point against the ABB operating instruction before ordering.
Key Features
- High-performance analog pH and ORP measurement
- Designed for low-conductivity water, down to 2 µS/cm
- No electrolyte to top up, reducing maintenance in pure water applications

Choosing the Right 100 ULTRA Variant
Sensors in this family are ordered by measurement type and construction, so check the model code on the existing sensor body or cable tag before re-ordering. Confirm whether the loop measures pH or ORP, the electrode and reference options, the mounting style (insertion, submersion or flow-through), the process connection, the integral cable length and the transmitter it connects to. Also note the water conductivity, because low conductivity is the condition the 100 ULTRA is designed for.
Installation and Commissioning
- Mount the sensor so the electrode stays wetted at all times, typically angled above horizontal so air bubbles do not collect on the glass.
- Choose a point with representative flow; avoid dead legs, and places directly after chemical injection where mixing is incomplete.
- Keep the analog sensor cable in its own conduit, away from power cables and VFD outputs, as high-impedance pH signals are sensitive to noise.
- Remove the protective cap only at installation and never let the electrode dry out.
- Perform a two-point buffer calibration (pH) or a reference-solution check (ORP) on the transmitter before placing the loop in control.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Set the cleaning and calibration interval from experience on the actual process, starting frequently and extending as data allows. Typical symptoms and causes:
- Slow response: coating on the glass or a fouled reference junction; clean with a solution suited to the deposit (acid for scale, detergent for oils).
- Drifting reading: reference poisoning or depletion, often from sulfides or heavy metals in the process.
- Low slope or offset at calibration: aged or damaged glass; replace the sensor if cleaning does not restore performance.
- Noisy signal: check cable integrity, grounding and the solution ground connection if used.
Applications in Oman and the GCC
pH and ORP sensors are used in refinery sour water and caustic treatment, produced water handling, cooling water and boiler chemistry at power plants, seawater reverse osmosis pretreatment and chlorination control, and industrial wastewater neutralization across Oman and the wider region.

About brand
ABB, formed in 1988 and headquartered in Zurich, covers an unusually long stretch of a plant's equipment list, from the flowmeter and analyzer in the field to the drive, breaker and protection relay in the electrical room.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier serving Oman and the GCC. Our ABB listing concentrates on measurement and analytics: ABB flowmeters, liquid analysis sensors and systems, level and pressure instruments. It also includes valve actuators, low voltage circuit breakers, ABB drives, soft starters and protection relays.
ABB product families on this page
Flow measurement includes ABB electromagnetic, Coriolis, vortex and swirl meters, sold under names such as ProcessMaster, AquaMaster, CoriolisMaster and SwirlMaster. Liquid analysis covers pH, conductivity and dissolved oxygen sensors with their transmitters. SensyTemp TSP sensors handle temperature. On the electrical side the listing has ACS355 machinery drives, the ACS550 general purpose drive, the ACQ580 for water and wastewater and the ACS880-01 industrial drive, with fieldbus adapters such as the FPBA-01 for PROFIBUS DP. Protection and switching products include SACE Tmax XT molded case breakers, SACE Emax 2 air circuit breakers, PSR soft starters and the REM615 and RET615 relays.
Where ABB instruments and drives are used
Water and wastewater plants use the electromagnetic flowmeters, analyzers and ACQ580 drives together. Oil and gas, power and chemical plants specify the Coriolis and vortex meters, pressure and level transmitters and the 615 series relays for motor and transformer feeders. The drives run pumps, fans, conveyors and compressors in almost every industry.
Ordering ABB parts: what we need
For drives send the full type code from the rating label, for example ACS355-03E-05A6-4, plus the serial number if it is a replacement. For instruments send the complete order code, measuring span, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol and the hazardous area approval. For breakers give frame size, rated current, breaking capacity, number of poles, trip unit and fixed or withdrawable version.
