Brand:

FIAMM 12FIT201 12 V 195 Ah Front Terminal Telecom Battery

Description

12FIT201 is the largest block in the FIAMM FIT range of 12 V front-terminal AGM batteries for telecom backup. The FIT folder gives 195 Ah at the 10-hour rate to 1.80 volts per cell at 20 °C, dimensions of 126 x 531 x 321 mm and a typical weight of 61 kg.

A very long-life front-terminal block for 19 inch and 23 inch telecom cabinets

The FIT AGM range is described as designed for the highest reliability and safety fields, with an easy-access front-terminal design particularly suited to telecom backup in 19 inch and 23 inch cabinets. FIAMM quotes a very long design life of 12 plus years in a flame-retardant ABS case.

Eight types are listed, from 12FIT40 (40 Ah, 13 kg) to 12FIT201, with the construction aimed at minimising footprint through good energy density. The top type is the choice where one block must deliver nearly 200 Ah on a single shelf position.

Construction notes from the FIT folder

  • Front-terminal design with access for routine visual inspection.
  • Flame-retardant ABS plastic to UL94 V0 for safety and thermal stability against case bulging.
  • High-quality fibre-glass separators control recombination currents and avoid thermal runaway.
  • Design optimised to lower self-discharge during storage.
  • Eurobat above 12 years very long life class; UL Recognized; IEC 60896-21 and 22 listed.

12FIT201 against the 180 Ah type

12FIT180 and 12FIT201 share the same 126 x 531 x 321 mm case; the 201 adds 15 Ah and 4 kg. The folder also lists 12FIT131 and 12FIT150 at 130 and 150 Ah in 126 x 558 x 282 mm cases, so check the length of your shelf before swapping any of them.

A 48 V telecom string needs four blocks in series; the manual says parallel strings should use cells of the same type and age, usually up to four strings.

Connection and handling notes from the manual

FIT blocks use the special L clamp described in the AGM manual for front-terminal connections, with tin-plated copper connectors and ABS V0 covers. Torque for FIT terminals is 7 to 9 Nm on M6 and 10 to 12 Nm on M8 posts.

The manual lists a remote venting system for the front side of FIT blocks, to be used when a cabinet must be sealed. Recharge soon after any discharge and keep the battery on float throughout standby. The manual also reminds installers not to lift blocks by their terminals and to keep every unit clean and dry before connection.

Telecom and industrial standby in Oman

The folder tags industry, motion and telecom. Typical uses are base-station shelters, microwave links, rectifier plants and substations. As general engineering practice, shelter temperature drives life: the manual shows life falling when working temperature rises above 20 °C, so air-conditioning failure scenarios should be part of the design review.

Battery room and maintenance notes

Telecom sites in the region are often remote and exposed to high temperatures, dust and long periods without grid power. Battery life depends strongly on temperature, so outdoor cabinets should be shaded and cooled where possible, and the charger’s float voltage and temperature compensation should be set as given in the manual. Where the site also uses a generator or solar supply, check that the charging profile suits the battery and that deep discharges are limited.

Size the string from the DC load and required autonomy, with an ageing margin. Torque the front terminals to the values in the manual, fit the insulated covers and recheck connections after the first months. Record block voltages and, where possible, internal resistance at each maintenance visit. With many remote sites, consistent records help plan replacements before batteries fail, and reduce the number of emergency visits.

Keep a record of installation dates for each site, so replacements can be planned in good time.
