TDK B84144A0050R000 50 A 4-Line EMC Filter with Neutral
Description
A four-line filter for three-phase supplies that carry a neutral
The TDK B84144A0050R000 is a 4-line power line EMC filter: three phases plus the neutral conductor are filtered, which distinguishes it from the three-line filters used on drives without a neutral connection. It is rated 50 A at 40 C on a 250/440 V AC supply, weighs about 4.0 kg, and has finger-safe terminals for a 10 mm2 cable, so it can be wired directly in a small machine or UPS cabinet.
TDK names UPS, wind farms and general applications for power electronics as typical uses, along with machine tools and textile and packaging machines. The threaded bushes on the end faces allow an RF-tight installation, which helps when the filter must be bonded to a cabinet wall.

Where the 50 A rating sits in the series
The ladder runs 16, 25, 36, 50, 80, 120, 150 and 180 A, with terminals growing from 4 mm2 to 95 mm2. The 50 A step has its own insertion loss curve (SSB1678-Y in the datasheet), separate from the 16 to 36 A group, and its own circuit drawing: the 25 to 50 A filters use a different internal diagram from the 16 A and 80 to 180 A ones. Leakage current rises with size, from 1.11 mA at 16 A to 4.1 mA at 25 to 50 A and 8.8 mA from 80 A.
Typical resistance falls from 10 mOhm at 16 A to 1.3 mOhm at 50 A and 0.25 mOhm at 180 A, while weight rises from 2.2 kg at 16 A to 4.0 kg at 50 A and 13 kg at 180 A, so the 50 A step is a mid-weight unit for cabinet planning.
- Choose the rating from the converter or machine input current, with allowance for the 40 C temperature reference.
- Check cable length and drive pulse frequency against EMC limits; the series is not specified for long motor cables in this datasheet, unlike the 3-line A and D series.
- Use the 80 A or larger types when terminals above 10 mm2 are needed.
Installation and safety instructions
The datasheet restricts work to qualified persons and warns that stored charge can leave dangerous voltage at the terminals for more than five minutes. Connect the protective earth first and remove it last, and tighten PE bolts to the table torques: 1.2 Nm for M4, 2.0 Nm for M5, 3.0 Nm for M6, 6.0 Nm for M8 and 10 Nm for M10. At 4.1 mA this filter sits in the 3.5 to 10 mA leakage band, which requires a fixed connection or an industrial IEC 60309 plug with at least 2.5 mm2, as set out in the cautions. The filter must be protected against exceeding its rated current by an overcurrent device, and it can stay hot for some time after the power is switched off. Do not let the filter carry mechanical loads, and note that galvanised case edges may show edge rust, which TDK states is not a quality defect.
Use in GCC installations
A neutral-carrying filter suits 400/230 V systems feeding UPS rectifiers, single-phase loads mixed with three-phase electronics, and machine control panels in packaging and textile plants. In dusty or humid coastal plants, remember that the stated climatic category is 25/100/21 and the filter is IP20, so it belongs inside a cabinet. Related drive-panel parts are in the electrical and power category.
Selection and installation notes
An EMC filter or reactor is selected from the rated current at the actual ambient temperature, the supply voltage and the drive or load it serves. Fit it as close as possible to the drive input, keep the cable between filter and drive short, bond the housing to the panel back plate with a clean metal contact, separate input and output cables, and check the leakage current against the protective earth requirements of the installation.
Information needed for a quotation
Send the full model code, the quantity, the delivery location in Oman or the GCC, the intended use and any accessories needed, so that the complete package can be quoted together.
Documents and supply information
The manufacturer data sheet is attached to this page and should be read together with the project specification and the site risk assessment before a purchase is confirmed. Ratings, standards and dimensions are quoted as printed on that sheet. Lead time, stock position and certificates available with the shipment are confirmed in the quotation, and we supply to Oman and the wider GCC region for industrial, utility and building services projects.
Frequently asked questions
Why choose a 4-line filter rather than a 3-line one?
A 4-line filter also filters the neutral conductor, which is needed when the equipment draws neutral current in a 3-phase 4-wire supply.
