Task Force Tips AY5NJ-NJ 2.5 in Gated Wye Quarter-Turn Valve

Description

The Task Force Tips AY5NJ-NJ is a 2.5 in gated wye that splits one supply line into two, each with its own quarter-turn folding-handle shut-off valve. It has a single 2.5 in (65 mm) NH female swivel rocker inlet and two 2.5 in NH male rigid outlets, a bi-directional waterway and top-mounted handles, so a crew can open, throttle or close either branch under pressure without shutting the supply.

The body is hardcoat-anodized aluminum with powder coat inside and out. TFT lists the weight as 10.4 lb, and the maker publishes a certificate of conformance stating that the 2.5 in AY-series gated wye meets the applicable requirements of NFPA 1960:2024.

Valve handles and slow-close option

With the folding handle in line with the outlet the valve is fully open, and perpendicular to the outlet it is closed. An automatic valve lock on folding-handle models holds the position at partial openings and resets itself when the handle is moved. Handles can be folded back over the unit for compact storage. The manual also describes a slow-close hand-wheel version with a rising position indicator that meets the NFPA 1960 slow-close requirement; the AY5NJ-NJ code is the quarter-turn version, so it does not include the slow-close actuator. Open and close the valves slowly to avoid water hammer.

Selection and ordering guide

The manufacturer title for this code is a single 2.5 in NHF swivel rocker inlet with double 2.5 in NHM rigid outlets and quarter-turn handles. Check that your hose couplings are NH; BS, Storz and other standards need adapters, which are not part of this part number. Choose the downstream nozzle or monitor by its own flow and pressure rating, and keep total flow within what a 2.5 in line can carry.

Installation and maintenance notes

Connect hose or fittings on each side, avoid tight bends that kink the supply, and do not exceed 300 psi. Where dissimilar metals are left coupled, NFPA 1930 advises an anti-corrosive lubricant and a quarterly disconnect and inspection. Disconnect, clean and inspect the appliance at least quarterly, grease seals with a silicone grease such as Molykote 112, touch up exposed aluminum with enamel paint, and test annually per NFPA 1930. If the unit is left connected or holds trapped water, flush it with fresh water after each use. Salt-water use is permitted if rinsed afterwards, with corrosion outside the warranty.

Applications in GCC industry

Gated wyes are used on fire trucks, plant hose reels, hydrant outlets and temporary lay-flat hose systems at terminals, tank farms and construction sites to bring a second branch into service without interrupting the first. Powder-coated aluminum and polymer bearing rings on the hose couplings help guard against galvanic corrosion in humid coastal environments.

Selection and use notes

A gated wye is installed on a supply line, so confirm the thread type, the working pressure and the hose sizes before ordering. Open and close the valves slowly to avoid water hammer, flush the body after use and check the handles and seals regularly. Store with the valves partly open to relieve pressure.

Before ordering, compare the ratings on the data sheet with the project specification, check the connection sizes and the supply conditions, and confirm which accessories, spares and documents travel with the unit. On delivery, inspect the packing, compare the nameplate with the order and keep the manual with the site records so that later commissioning and maintenance work can follow the maker instructions. Ask us if any detail is unclear and we will check it with the supplier before the order is placed.

Information needed for a quotation

Send the full model code, the quantity, the delivery location in Oman or the GCC, the intended use and any accessories needed, so that the complete package can be quoted together.

Documents and supply information

The manufacturer data sheet is attached to this page and should be read together with the project specification and the site risk assessment before a purchase is confirmed. Ratings, standards and dimensions are quoted as printed on that sheet. Lead time, stock position and certificates available with the shipment are confirmed in the quotation, and we supply to Oman and the wider GCC region for industrial, utility and building services projects.
