VEGA VEGAPOINT 11 Ultra-Compact Capacitive Level Switch IO-Link

Description

The smallest VEGAPOINT: a capacitive switch for water-based liquids

The VEGAPOINT 11 is VEGA’s ultra-compact capacitive point level sensor with the smallest installation dimensions in the series, intended for detecting water-based liquids. VEGA names overfill and dry-run protection as typical applications and notes that the small sensor can also be used in thin pipelines. It is adjustment free: the switching function is determined by the electrical connection, a clearly visible coloured switching status indication can be seen all around, and an optional universal connection for hygienic adapters meets food, beverage and pharmaceutical requirements. The sheet covers the transistor PNP/NPN version with IO-Link.

Adjustment-free switching

With no Bluetooth module and no adjustment on the instrument, the VEGAPOINT 11 is the simplest member of the family: wire it, and the output switches when the electrode tip is covered. The alternating electric field at the tip detects a change in capacitance, and buildup is ignored to a certain degree. VEGA’s product information gives a minimum dielectric constant of 2 and a thread from ½”, so the sensor fits small manifolds and tubing. It cannot be adjusted for foams or sticky media; the VEGAPOINT 24 is the alternative for those.

Where it is installed

As general examples, small tanks, pump suction lines and filling lines are places where a low-profile switch must fit a sidewall port. The status indication is visible from all sides, and with IO-Link the output can transmit a diagnostic signal to the master. The sheet lists protection up to IP69 for the stainless housing for wash-down areas. Specify thread or hygienic adapter, plug type and the approvals needed (for example food contact) and confirm them against the manufacturer’s documents.

Because the 11 has a ½” thread option and a very short body, it suits installations where space is limited. VEGA’s documentation also lists the plug connector options: an M12 x 1 plug, a valve connector according to ISO 4400, and Ex and hygienic approvals depending on the variant. Wetted parts are PEEK and stainless steel 316L with an FKM seal, so chemical compatibility with cleaning agents should be checked on the data sheet.

About brand

VEGA is a German maker of level and pressure instruments. Bruno Grieshaber founded the company in 1959 in Triberg in the Black Forest, and it has been based in Schiltach since 1975, still family owned as VEGA Grieshaber KG. VEGA is best known for radar level sensors: it introduced the first two-wire radar level sensor in 1997 and the first 80 GHz radar sensor for bulk solids, the VEGAPULS 69, in 2015.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing VEGA radar and guided wave radar transmitters, point level switches, pressure transmitters and signal conditioning instruments for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Sensors are matched from the product code on the type label.

Where VEGA instruments are used

VEGA radar sensors measure level in crude oil and product tanks, separators, chemical reactors, cement and aggregate silos, grain stores and water reservoirs. Compact cable radars are widely used in wastewater pumping stations and flood monitoring. Because 80 GHz radar focuses a narrow beam, it can measure past internal structures in a tank, and it is not affected by the temperature, pressure or vapour above the product, which suits hot Gulf storage tanks.

Ordering VEGA instruments: what we need

The product code on the type label (for example PS64.XXXXXXX) fixes the measuring range, antenna or probe, process connection, electronics and approvals. Send it with the serial number. For a new measurement add the medium and its dielectric constant if known, tank or silo height and internals, process pressure and temperature, process connection, output (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS PA, Modbus or IO-Link), and any hazardous-area or overfill protection approval required.
