Heat, protection and mounting

The 602 W loss makes thermal design important for the Frame E drive. Allow for panel ventilation, observe the derating curves above 50 °C, and consider the control module fan kit for operation to 70 °C with derating. Sound pressure is 68 dBA at 1 m. Rockwell lists 70 A maximum Class CC, J or T fuses and the 140MT-F9E-C45 manual motor controller, with the 140G-G6C3-C50 molded-case breaker in the IEC table.

The 37 A model is only offered as a filtered drive. Rockwell notes that you must verify the application supports a filtered drive before choosing this rating.

Catalog code and family ratings

Reading the catalog number: 25B is the PowerFlex 525, D is the 380…480V 3-phase supply, the next group is the output current code, N is the IP20 open enclosure, 1 is the standard interface, and the following digit is the emission class: 1 means an integral EMC filter and 0 means no filter. The last digit 4 is the version.

Key features of the 25B-D037N114

  • Dual duty rating on one hardware: 18.5 kW for variable-torque loads such as centrifugal pumps and fans, or 15 kW where a constant-torque load needs higher overload.
  • Five motor control modes, from simple V/Hz up to closed-loop velocity vector and permanent-magnet motor control.
  • Integral EMC filter and an internal DC bus choke in this rating, which reduces the external hardware needed in the panel.
  • Built-in Safe Torque Off up to PLd / SIL CL2 without an additional safety option module.
  • Removable control module, so the control wiring and parameters can be prepared before the power section is installed.
  • Pulse input up to 100 kHz for speed reference from an encoder or upstream controller.

Normal duty or heavy duty?

The choice depends on how the load behaves at start-up and during operation, not on the motor power alone. A centrifugal pump or fan needs little torque at low speed and rarely demands overload, so the 18.5 kW normal-duty rating with 110 % for 60 seconds is adequate. A loaded conveyor, mixer, extruder or positive-displacement pump can need full torque from standstill and repeated overload; for these, apply the heavy-duty 15 kW rating with 150 % for 60 seconds. If an existing 18.5 kW motor drives a constant-torque load, the 22 kW model 25B-D043N114 is the safer selection.

Commissioning notes

The PowerFlex 525 includes application-oriented start-up groups on the keypad and can also be configured with Rockwell’s Connected Components Workbench software, which allows parameter files to be prepared offline. Enter the motor nameplate data first, select the control mode, then run an autotune for sensorless vector operation. On an EtherNet/IP network the drive can be integrated into a Logix controller project, so parameters are stored with the PLC program.

Wiring and protection

  • Size the supply cable and protective device from the input current and the fuse or breaker data in the specification table.
  • Use screened motor cable bonded at both ends to keep emissions within the filter’s performance.
  • Keep control wiring separated from power wiring and use the STO terminals only as described in the safety documentation.

Installing in Oman and GCC panels

With 602 W of losses, two or three of these drives in a closed enclosure can quickly push the internal temperature above 50 °C during a Gulf summer. Plan cooling around the actual losses: filter fans only work when ambient air is cool enough, while outdoor or poorly ventilated rooms often need an enclosure air conditioner. The IP20 open-type construction also requires a dust-tight enclosure in sandy locations, and air filters must be cleaned regularly to maintain air flow through the heatsink.

What to include in your RFQ

  • Catalog number 25B-D037N114 and the quantity.
  • Motor nameplate power, current and the type of load, to confirm the duty rating.
  • Required communication option, such as an additional fieldbus card.
  • Accessories such as the control module fan kit, keypad or line reactor if specified.
  • Delivery location in Oman or elsewhere in the GCC.

About brand

Catalog numbers beginning 1756, 1734, 1746 or 5069 are read at a glance by anyone who maintains Allen-Bradley control panels. The brand, the control hardware name of Rockwell Automation, dates back to 1903 in Milwaukee, USA. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Allen-Bradley PLC and I/O modules, communication adapters and PowerFlex drives for plants in Oman, matching catalog number, series letter and firmware against the manufacturer's documentation.

Allen-Bradley product families listed here

Current controller platforms on this page are ControlLogix, with the 1756-L85E ControlLogix 5580 controller and the 1756-PA72 chassis power supply, and CompactLogix 5380, with the 5069-L320ER and 5069-L340ERM. Distributed I/O is represented by POINT I/O: the 1734-AENTR dual-port EtherNet/IP adapter and the 1734-IB8 digital input module. Allen-Bradley drives listed include the PowerFlex 525 and PowerFlex 755. For installed systems there are SLC 500 parts: the 1746-A10 chassis, 1746-NI16I analog input module, 1747-ASB remote I/O adapter, 1747-KE interface and 1747-M13 memory module.

Where Allen-Bradley hardware is used

ControlLogix and CompactLogix controllers run packaged equipment and plant utilities: compressor and pump skids, water and wastewater plants, power distribution, material handling and packaging lines. PowerFlex drives control pumps, fans and conveyors. Many SLC 500 racks are still in service.

Ordering Allen-Bradley modules and drives: what we need

Send the full catalog number, the series letter and, for controllers and communication modules, the firmware revision printed on the side label. Compatibility with an existing project depends on these. For PowerFlex drives, give the complete catalog string, which encodes voltage, current rating, enclosure and options, plus the motor nameplate data. For SLC 500 parts, tell us the rack size and processor so that we can check slot and power supply loading in the manufacturer's manuals. A label photo avoids most mistakes.
