SICK DL50-P1123 Dx50 Laser Distance Sensor, Reflector Mode
Description
DL50-P1123 is a SICK Dx50 laser distance sensor (part no. 1047361) that measures distance by time of flight with a visible red laser. It works on reflector, with a measuring range of 200 mm … 50,000 mm, on “diamond grade” reflective tape and laser class see table. It provides a PNP digital output and a current output analog output (4 mA … 20 mA, ≤ 300 Ω).
Time-of-flight measurement with the DL50-P1123
This version is built to measure to reflective tape (the data sheet specifies “diamond grade” tape) rather than to natural surfaces. That is the right choice for long distances to a fixed reflector on a crane, shuttle, stacker or gate, where a bare surface would return too little light. For targets without tape, look at the natural-object version instead and compare the reflectance-dependent ranges. Time-of-flight laser sensors send short pulses of visible red light and calculate distance from the time the reflection takes to return. The visible red spot makes alignment easy: you can see where the sensor is measuring, which saves time when positioning on a crane, a shuttle or a long conveyor.
Resolution 1,000 µm … 1 mm, repeatability ≥ 2 mm, accuracy ± 7 mm; response time 15 ms … 30 ms, 15 ms / 30 ms. A spot of 15 mm x 15 mm (10 m) is listed at 10 m and ambient light immunity is typically 40,000 lx. Configurable functions in the data sheet include: set moving average: fast/slow; Switching mode: distance to object (DtO); Teach-in, scaling and inversion of digital output; Set hysteresis; Teach-in, scaling and inversion of analog output; Multifunctional input: laser off / external teach / deactivated; Switch-off display; Reset to factory default; Lock user interface.

Type code DL50-P1123 and part number 1047361
Dx50 is the family name; DT50 versions measure to natural objects and DL50 versions to reflective tape, which is why two pages with similar housings carry different part numbers. Quote 1047361 with the type code DL50-P1123 when you order, and state which target you measure to.
Other active types in the same SICK family, each with its own part number:
- DT50-P1124 (part no. 1047616)
- DS50-P1122 (part no. 1047405)
- DT50-P1123 (part no. 1047118)
- DL50-N1123 (part no. 1047401) – Switching output: NPN
Installation, laser safety and wiring notes
Wire it to a supply of DC 10 V … 30 V. Protection is IP65, and the permitted ambient range in operation is –30 °C … +65 °C; –30 °C … +80 °C, operation with 2 cooling plates; –30 °C … +140 °C, operation with 2 cooling plates and protection filter. The body measures 36.1 mm x 62.7 mm x 57.7 mm and weighs 200 g. Current draw is ≤ 2.1 W. Observe the laser-safety instructions of the data sheet, never look into the beam, and allow the warm-up time listed in the table before relying on the measurement. Mount the sensor on a rigid bracket and keep the beam clear of any obstruction along its whole path. Wire the digital output to a PNP-compatible input and scale the analog output on the controller side before you rely on it.
Choosing between the reflector and natural-object versions
The main decision with the Dx50 family is the target. The DL50-P1123 measures to reflective tape and is the stronger option for long, fixed paths where a reflector can be mounted on the moving machine or at the end of its travel. The DT50 versions listed above measure to natural objects and avoid the need for tape, but their range depends on how much light the surface returns. If a reflector can be fitted and kept clean, the reflector version gives the long range stated in the data sheet; if the target changes or cannot carry tape, a natural-object version is the better starting point. The output type matters too: this version has a PNP digital output, while the DL50-N1123 is the NPN alternative for controllers that expect that switching logic.
Commissioning the sensor
Align the red spot on the centre of the reflective tape at the near end and the far end of the travel, and check that the tape is large enough to keep the spot on it over the whole path. Use the teach-in and scaling functions to set the analog output to the distance range that the controller needs, and set the switching point and hysteresis for the digital output. Compare the measured distance with a tape measure at a few points along the travel, and choose the fast or slow moving average to balance response against a steady reading. When the settings are correct, the user interface can be locked to prevent accidental changes.
How to specify your RFQ
Send the type code DL50-P1123 and part number 1047361, the quantity and the delivery point. Tell us the measuring distance, whether the target carries reflective tape, the output type your controller expects and the ambient conditions at the mounting position. For a replacement, a photo of the old sensor label lets us confirm the version before quoting.
Documents and quotation
The SICK data sheet for DL50-P1123 (part no. 1047361) is attached to this page as a PDF, exactly as SICK publishes it, so you can check it against your wiring and mounting drawings. To request a price, give us the part number, the quantity and where the goods should go, using the RFQ form. Related items are listed under Sensors & Transmitters. Confirm before ordering that the version matches your installation: connection, output type and ratings. The data sheet prevails over this summary.

About brand
Machine builders have relied on SICK since 1946 for the sensors that tell a controller where a part, a pallet or a person is. The company, based in Waldkirch, Germany, makes photoelectric, inductive and magnetic sensors, distance sensors and safety devices. Seven Star LLC supplies SICK sensors to maintenance teams and integrators in Oman, mostly as exact replacements identified by type code and part number.
SICK sensor families on this page
Five of the SICK families listed here are described below. The W4 miniature photoelectric sensors include the WTB4-3, a proximity sensor with background suppression. IME is the standard inductive proximity line, and the IME18 is the M18 housing size. RZT7 cylinder sensors fit T-slot pneumatic cylinders and detect the piston magnet. The DT35 belongs to the Dx35 laser distance sensors for mid-range measurement. The microScan3 is a safety laser scanner that guards hazardous zones around machines and vehicles.
Where SICK sensors are used
SICK sensors are fitted on packaging and bottling lines, conveyors, palletizers, warehouse cranes and automated guided vehicles. Safety laser scanners protect robot cells and transfer cars. In process plants, the same proximity and cylinder sensors report valve and damper positions on packaged equipment.
Ordering SICK sensors: what we need
A SICK type code such as IME18-08NPSZW2K packs the whole specification into one string: housing size, sensing range, flush or non-flush mounting, output type and connection. Each variant also has a 7-digit part number, and that number is the safest identifier. Please send:
- Type code and part number from the sensor label, or a photo of it
- Output type (PNP or NPN, normally open or closed) and connection (cable length or M8/M12 plug)
- For microScan3: variant (Core or Pro), interface, protective field range, plus system plug and bracket
We check the code in SICK's documentation and tell you if the manufacturer lists a successor.
