Pfannenberg DTS 3061 Cooling Unit, 694 W NEMA 3R/4

Description

Compact outdoor cooling units with a NEMA-rated seal

The Pfannenberg DTS 3061 is a compact side-mounted enclosure cooling unit of 694 to 800 W. The DTS 3061 carries a UL-tested NEMA type 3R/4 seal against the enclosure and has a powder-coated steel cover, while its sibling the DTS 3081 has a stainless steel 304 cover and is rated NEMA type 4/4X. Both have IP 56 protection, a maintenance-free condenser with 3 mm fin spacing and fully coated heat exchangers and tubing.

Because of the closed refrigerant circuit these units can keep the inside of a cabinet below the outside temperature, which a filterfan cannot do. Fully coated coils and the wide fin spacing give a long service life in dusty or contaminated outdoor air, and the stainless version is aimed at outdoor and food-and-beverage use. The unit fits enclosures of 400 mm width and less and is also used to cool individual hot spots in larger cabinets.

Ordering codes and the low ambient package

The article numbers below are from the product sheet. LAP is the low ambient package: it adds a 900 W enclosure heater and a thermostat to be placed inside the enclosure, which extends the ambient range down to -40 °C.

Selection and what to confirm before ordering

Size a cooling unit from the heat loss inside the cabinet plus the heat gained through its walls, at the highest ambient temperature the site will see. The cooling capacity falls as ambient rises: the sheet gives 694 W at A35/A35 and 428 W at A35/A50, meaning 35 °C ambient and 50 °C ambient with 35 °C inside. For hot outdoor sites the A35/A50 value is the figure to compare with the load. Mount the unit where its external air inlet and outlet are free, and set the control range so the cabinet is not driven below the dew point of the ambient air.

Confirm the supply voltage, whether the NEMA 3R/4 steel or the NEMA 4/4X stainless cover is needed, and whether the low ambient package is wanted. The page also lists 460 V data sheets; check the exact article for that voltage. Accessories are a condensate bottle (18314000100) and an aluminium filter (18881500005). See also the Rittal Blue e+ wall-mounted cooling units.

Mounting and installing the DTS 3061 on an enclosure

Plan the side cut-outs against the drawing in the Pfannenberg installation manual before any metal is removed, and check that the enclosure wall is flat and stiff enough to carry the unit without flexing. The NEMA 3R/4 rating depends on the seal between the cooling unit and the cabinet, so clean the mounting surface, make sure the seal sits evenly without gaps, and tighten the fixings evenly. Leave free space around the external air inlet and outlet so that warm discharge air is not drawn straight back in, and keep the internal air path clear of cable ducts and tall components.

Route the condensate drain downwards with a steady fall and lead it away from walkways and electrical equipment. Wire the supply through the specified pre-fuse using the pluggable connection, and confirm that the nameplate voltage matches the site network before switching on.

Commissioning the cooling unit

At start-up, check that air moves through both the internal and external air circuits. Confirm the thermostat setting suits the equipment inside the cabinet; the factory setting is a starting point, not a requirement. Close the enclosure door fully, because an open door lets humid ambient air in and produces excess condensate. Over the first days of operation, compare the cabinet temperature with the ambient and check that condensate drains freely.

Operating in Oman and GCC heat, dust and humidity

In Oman and the wider GCC, summer ambient temperatures and direct sun on an outdoor enclosure push the heat load to its highest point exactly when cooling capacity falls. Size the unit from the A35/A50 figure rather than the A35/A35 figure where the site is hot, and place the cabinet in a shaded location where possible. The wide fin spacing and coated coils help in dusty air, but sand and fine dust still build up on the condenser over time, so inspect it at regular intervals and clean it with low-pressure air when deposits appear.

Coastal sites bring high humidity and salt. Humid air increases the volume of condensate, so check the drain more often during humid months, and inspect the cover, fixings and seal for corrosion. Where the cabinet stands in a particularly aggressive outdoor or washdown location, compare the powder-coated DTS 3061 with the stainless steel DTS 3081 named on this page before ordering.

Routine maintenance checks

A simple maintenance routine keeps the unit working through the hot season. Isolate power before opening any cover. Check the condenser for dust and debris, the seal against the enclosure for damage, the condensate drain for blockage and the fans for unusual noise. Record the cabinet temperature and the ambient temperature on each visit; a gradual rise in the difference between them is an early sign of a dirty coil, a failing fan or a door that is no longer sealing.

About brand

Pfannenberg is a family-owned German company based in Hamburg that makes signalling devices and thermal management products for industrial use. Otto Pfannenberg founded the company in 1954, and its history includes the invention of the filter fan in 1958 and of the electronic flashing beacon in 1962.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Pfannenberg signalling devices and enclosure climate products for panel builders and plant engineers in Oman and the GCC.

Pfannenberg product series

Signalling devices include the PATROL PA X combined flashing sounders from 105 to 122 dB(A), the PYRA flashing light sounder, the PRO 10-Ex sounder for zone 2 and zone 22, and the INTENSE BR 50 modular LED signal tower.

Thermal management covers FLZ enclosure thermostats, twin thermostats, hygrostats and Peltier thermostats, FLH radiant heaters and PFH and FLH-T fan heaters, PF filter fans in several installation sizes up to 785 m3/h and the PTF roof-mounted filter fan, and DTS and DTI cooling units, including the DTI outdoor version.

Where Pfannenberg products are used

Control and drive cabinets on machines and in plant rooms, outdoor enclosures in hot and humid climates, and alarm and evacuation signalling in industrial buildings and process areas. In the Gulf, cabinet cooling and condensation control are the main reasons for specifying Pfannenberg thermal products.

Ordering Pfannenberg products: what we need

Send the article number or full designation, such as PA X 1-05 or DTI 8401P. For signalling devices add the supply voltage, lens and housing colour and any required approval such as EN 54-3 or an Ex certificate. For cooling units give the cooling capacity, voltage and frequency, mounting (side or roof, internal or external) and the ambient temperature. For fans and heaters give the installation size, voltage and airflow or heating power.
