Brand:

Streamlight Vulcan LED ATEX Zone 2 Rechargeable Lantern

Description

A long-throw rechargeable lantern for Zone 2 and Zone 22 areas

The Streamlight Vulcan LED ATEX is a lightweight rechargeable lantern with an exceptional throw. A single high-power LED and a deep-dish parabolic reflector give 100,000 candela peak intensity and a 632 m beam distance on high, with 180 lumens measured output. Low mode gives 70 lumens and 40,000 candela to 400 m. Lithium-ion nanotechnology cells make it, in Streamlight’s words, the lightest lantern in its category at 875 g.

A dual-direction momentary toggle switch selects high, low and blinking modes. The housing and face cap are anti-static, non-conductive nylon in international safety orange with a rubberised cushioned-grip handle, and the lantern is IP66 rated and tested for 2 m impact.

What Zone 2 and 22 equipment means

Category 3 equipment is intended for zones where an explosive atmosphere is unlikely to occur in normal operation and, if it does, will only persist briefly: Zone 2 for gas and Zone 22 for dust. The Vulcan LED ATEX uses increased-safety (ec) and energy-limited (ic) protection for gas, and a dust-tight enclosure (tc) for dust, with a T5 temperature class for gas (100 C) and a 54 C maximum surface temperature for dust.

That is a lower category than the Vulcan 180 HAZ-LO, so it is not a substitute where the area classification is Zone 0 or Zone 1. Check the classification drawing before deploying it as a portable light inside a process area.

Why choose a long-throw lantern

The 632 m throw suits scanning a plant boundary, a tank farm, a jetty or a marshalling yard from a vehicle, where a wide-angle work light would be wasted. The momentary switch and blink mode support signalling and search tasks.

The information sheet provides item numbers for 230V, 240V, 100V, vehicle-mount and charger-free versions, and charge cords for 100, 120, 230 and 240 V AC and 12 V DC are listed on the fact sheet.

The operating instructions ask for a full charge before first use, and allow the lantern to stay in the charger when not in use. It slides into the rack rear foot first; a red LED shows charging and a green LED shows completion. Genuine Streamlight parts only should be used, since substituting components may impair suitability for Zone 2, and the lantern must not be charged in potentially hazardous locations. Clean the lenses with a soft cloth and mild detergent and avoid aggressive cleaners.

Documents and quotation

This page carries the manufacturer’s fact sheet and its information sheet listing the item numbers, and the operating instructions. Confirm that Zone 2 and Zone 22 category 3 equipment is acceptable for the intended location, and select the correct supply voltage or vehicle-mount system. Specify the voltage or vehicle-mount system, the quantity, and the Zone 2 or Zone 22 location. The Electrical & Power category lists related equipment.

About brand

Streamlight is an American manufacturer of professional flashlights, headlamps, lanterns and scene lights. The business was set up in 1973 near Philadelphia by investor Harry French around a high-intensity light that grew out of a solar simulator built for NASA. Streamlight moved to its present 240,000 square foot headquarters and plant in Eagleville, Pennsylvania, in 2001.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Streamlight hazardous-area and industrial lights for oil and gas, petrochemical and plant maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.

Where Streamlight lights are used

Inspection and maintenance in refineries, gas plants, tank farms and offshore facilities, confined space entry, emergency response and general plant work. Marking, zone, gas group and temperature class differ by model and by the battery fitted, so the certificate and product label must match the area classification.
