Streamlight Dualie Rechargeable ATEX Zone 0 Flashlight

Description

A rechargeable Zone 0 dual-beam flashlight with a magnetic clip

The Streamlight Dualie Rechargeable ATEX is the lithium-ion version of the Dualie, aimed at oil and gas, fire and confined-space users who would otherwise burn through alkaline cells. A forward spot beam of 230 lumens and 15,000 candela reaches 245 m, and a side-facing flood of 110 lumens covers the nearby ground; together they produce 325 lumens.

The built-in belt clip carries two magnets, so the light can be hung on a steel structure and left to work hands-free. The anti-static polymer body is non-conductive and corrosion proof, the rating is IP67, and a 3300 mAh lithium-ion cell recharges fully in 10 hours in the supplied holder.

Charging rules that protect the approval

The operating instructions state that the hazardous-location approval is valid only with the appropriate Streamlight battery, that the light must not be charged in a potentially hazardous location, and that components must not be repaired or replaced in such a location. The supplied USB converter cable (part numbers 22071, 22072 for AC and 22080 for DC) must be used to keep the approval intact.

The charger holder can be wall or vehicle mounted. Use the charger only for this light and do not use an extension cord. For a vehicle installation the instructions describe polarity and fusing, and recommend type-approved connectors.

Choosing a plug and package

The information sheet lists the light with 230V and 240V charge sets, and a light-only item for fleets that already have holders. Spare parts include the charger holder 68790, bank charger 68788, lithium-ion battery 68792 and USB cords 22072, 22049, 22081 and 22080.

Compared with the AA Dualie models, this one is brighter, with a 245 m spot, and costs nothing per shift in cells, but a full recharge takes 10 hours, so plan a spare unit for continuous operations.

For the charger holder, the instructions say it should never be mounted against a heat-sensitive surface and that the most secure position is with the flashlight vertical and head up. Two self-tapping screws are supplied, and the correct hole for them in sheet metal is 1/8 in. The holder housings are electrically isolated, so they may be mounted to a vehicle chassis; make vehicle connections with type-approved connectors, because a shorted vehicle battery can easily start a fire.

Selection checks for hazardous-area users

Before issuing this light to a crew, compare its marking with the hazardous-area classification of the site and with the permit system that governs entry. The zone, gas group and temperature class on the light must suit the area drawing for every location where it will be carried, and the site safety team should confirm that before the first issue. Decide whether the long-throw spot, the wide flood, or both will be used most, since the run time differs between modes, and plan how many lights each shift needs so that a charged unit is always available while others recharge.

Setting up the charging point

Choose a charging location in a safe, non-hazardous area such as a control room, workshop or tool store, following the operating instructions on mounting position and surfaces. Fit the holders where they are protected from impact and from direct sun, and route the USB cord neatly so it is not pulled or crushed. Label each holder and light if the site tracks issued equipment, and give the person responsible for the tool store a simple routine for returning, charging and reissuing lights at shift change.

Using the light in Omani heat, dust and humidity

Oilfield, refinery and port work in Oman often means high air temperatures, strong sun on vehicle dashboards and fine dust. Avoid leaving the light on a dashboard or in a closed vehicle during the day, because lithium-ion cells age faster when kept hot, and keep the charging point in a cooler, shaded room. Wipe off sand and dust before charging so dirt is not carried into the holder, and dry the light after use in rain, spray or humid coastal conditions. When the light is hung from steel by its magnetic clip, check that the surface is stable and that the light cannot fall into equipment or a vessel.

Inspection and care

Include the flashlight in the routine inspection of hazardous-area equipment. Look for cracks in the case, damage to the lens and wear on the clip, and withdraw any light that is damaged, following the instructions on repair and replacement. Keep the lens clean with a soft cloth. Record the date of issue and inspection where the site keeps an Ex equipment register.

Training the people who carry it

Brief every user on the charging rules before the light is issued: charge only in the designated safe area, never open or repair the light on site, and report any damage at once. Short toolbox talks at shift start are a practical way to repeat these points, and new contractors should receive the same briefing as permanent staff.

Documents and quotation

This page carries the manufacturer’s fact sheet and its information sheet listing the item numbers, and the operating instructions. Confirm the charge-set voltage and plug type for your network, and whether the light-only item is sufficient, before ordering. List the charge-set voltage, plug type and quantity of lights and spare holders you need. The Electrical & Power category lists related equipment.

Lanterns and area lights include the Vulcan 180 HAZ-LO rechargeable lantern for zone 0, the Vulcan LED for zone 2, the E-Flood LiteBox, the Super Siege lantern and the Syclone magnetic work light for unclassified areas.

Where Streamlight lights are used

Inspection and maintenance in refineries, gas plants, tank farms and offshore facilities, confined space entry, emergency response and general plant work. Marking, zone, gas group and temperature class differ by model and by the battery fitted, so the certificate and product label must match the area classification.

Ordering Streamlight lights: what we need

Send the five-digit item number with the charger voltage or plug type, colour and quantity. For hazardous-area lights state the zone, gas group and temperature class required, because item numbers vary by certification, voltage and package.
