Tractel NX / NXR Non-Marring Plate Lifting Clamp

The Tractel NX / NXR series are automatic multiposition lifting clamps with polyurethane-coated jaws for lifting and turning plates and other smooth or polished loads without marring. The sheet lists stainless steel plate, aluminium, pre-lacquered plate, wood, laminated sheet, marble, concrete, glass and plastic as typical loads, and the clamp can also be used on ordinary steel. The NX is the fixed-opening version and the NXR the adjustable one, with working load limits of 500 kg and 1500 kg.

How the clamp works

To open the jaws the operator pushes the handle down until the trigger activates, and the handle stays down. When the load is driven home to the back of the clamp throat, the trigger releases and the clamp locks automatically. The safety spring keeps the cam in contact with the plate even while it is being set down, and lifting provides proportional clamping so the clamping force follows the load. To release, push the handle all the way down, which locks the clamp open. Loads can be grasped horizontally or vertically and turned over by 90 or 180 degrees with the chain. For fragile loads the sheet advises manual opening and locking without bringing the handle to its limit stop, so the trigger is not activated.

Safe use and selection

The sheet is specific about use: the plate must always be driven home in the throat, the clamp must not be used on greasy or oily pieces, and the minimum lifted weight is 5 percent of the WLL, so a 500 kg clamp should not lift less than 25 kg. Never lift more than one plate at a time and do not use clamps to create permanent joints. Observe the angle limits: no more than 15 degrees between the chain and the clamp flanges for lifting, a halved WLL when turning loads, a maximum sling angle of 30 degrees when two clamps lift a vertical load without a beam, and half the WLL per clamp when two or more clamps lift a horizontal load with a lifting beam. Surface hardness has no limit. Select by plate thickness, which must fall within the jaw opening, then by weight and orientation. Confirm the thickness, load, orientation and the national inspection rules before ordering.
