EUCHNER CES-IA-BR-U-C07-SA Non-Contact Safety Switch Set

Description

Small RFID safety switch for guard position monitoring

The EUCHNER CES-IA-BR-U-C07-SA (order no. 165893) is a complete set made up of the transponder-coded safety switch CES-I-BR-U-C07-SA-157920 and the cube-shaped actuator CES-A-BTN-C07-156230. It monitors the position of doors, flaps and covers without mechanical contact and has its evaluation electronics built in, so it delivers two monitored safety outputs directly to the safety controller or safety relay.

The C07 housing is only 40 x 26.5 x 18 mm and offers three active faces, which gives freedom when the switch has to fit on narrow profiles. Unicode evaluation means the switch accepts only the actuator that was last taught in, which makes simple defeating with a spare actuator more difficult than with multicode versions.

Series connection and diagnostics

The BR version has enable inputs, so up to 20 switches can be wired in series in one chain while still reaching category 4 and PL e, as long as both safety outputs of the last device are evaluated. Chains can be up to 200 m long. Combined with the EUCHNER BR/IO-Link gateway GWY-CB or ESM-CB, each switch in the chain reports process and diagnostic data, which helps locate the open door or the faulty device on a large fenced installation. Two LEDs, STATE and DIA, show the status at the device.

Mounting and application notes

EUCHNER specifies surface mounting on metal, any installation orientation, and at least 50 mm between neighbouring switches. The fixing screws must not exceed 0.8 Nm. With IP69K and a plastic housing, the switch is suited to wash-down areas such as food and packaging machines. Inductive loads on the safety outputs need a free-wheeling diode. For devices that also have to lock the door, choose a guard locking switch such as the CTP or CTM series instead.

Documents and quotation

The attached EUCHNER operating instructions cover the CES-I-BR C07 unicode and multicode switches. For a quotation, give the set order number 165893, the quantity, the M12 cable required and whether the switches are to be used in a series chain. Related devices are listed under Safety Switches & Guard Locking.

How the CES-IA-BR-U-C07-SA Transponder Switch Works

The switch contains a reading coil and evaluation electronics. When the actuator, which holds an RFID transponder, comes within the switching distance, the switch powers the transponder through the coil and reads its code. If the code matches the taught-in actuator, and the enable inputs are active, the two safety outputs switch on. When the door opens and the actuator moves away, the outputs switch off. Because there is no mechanical contact, there is no wear from actuation and the switch tolerates door misalignment better than a mechanical tongue switch.

Coded actuators make defeating the guard harder. ISO 14119 classifies RFID switches by coding level: low-coded devices accept any actuator of the same type, while high-coded unicode devices accept only one specific actuator. The CES-IA-BR-U-C07-SA uses unicode evaluation, which is why it suits guards where manipulation is a real risk.

Installation & Commissioning

  • Align the active faces of switch and actuator and check the assured switching distance with the door in its closed position.
  • Fit the supplied safety screws and hole caps so that the switch and actuator cannot be removed easily.
  • Teach in the actuator at commissioning and record the procedure in the machine documentation.
  • In a series chain, check that opening each door in turn switches off the safety outputs of the last device.
  • Check the full safety function at the intervals defined in the machine’s risk assessment.

Typical Applications in Oman & the GCC

Small transponder switches are used on machine guards, packaging and food machinery, conveyor inspection hatches, robot cell fences and process skids with removable covers. The compact housing fits narrow aluminium profiles, and IP69K suits areas with high-pressure cleaning. Seven Star LLC supplies EUCHNER safety switches across Oman and the GCC; send the set order number, cable requirements and quantity, and our team can help confirm the correct ordering code.

Planning a series chain

Series wiring saves inputs on the safety controller, but every device in the chain shares one pair of safety outputs. Plan the chain so that doors that are opened together, or that protect the same hazard zone, are grouped. Where operators need to know which door is open, use the diagnostic function through the gateway, or the LEDs at each device, to identify it quickly. Keep a wiring list with the device order and the cable lengths, because the total chain length and the number of devices are limited. Also check how the safety function behaves when one door is opened and closed again while another remains open, and whether the reset concept of the machine needs a separate reset button for each zone. Document the result in the machine validation records.

About brand

EUCHNER is a German manufacturer of safety switches, guard locking systems and safety controls for machine safety, founded in 1940 and headquartered in Leinfelden-Echterdingen near Stuttgart. The family-owned company is best known for its guard locking and transponder-coded safety switches.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list EUCHNER safety components for machine builders and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.

EUCHNER product series

Guard locking switches include the transponder-coded CTP, CTA and CTS series, the CTM with BiState guard locking, the STP twin switch and the electromechanical TX1B and TZ series. The MGB2 Multifunctional Gate Box combines guard locking, handle and control elements on one door. Non-contact switches include the CES-IA set and the CES-AP RFID safety switch, and the CTP-I version provides monitoring without guard locking.

Control devices include the ZSM and ZSB three-position enabling switches, the RPS emergency stop rope pull switch, the ESM safety relays (including versions with time-delayed contacts and the ESM-TE301 expansion) and the MSC modular safety controller.

Where EUCHNER components are used

Safety guards and doors on machine tools, robot cells, presses, packaging machines and conveyor systems, emergency stop along conveyors and enabling during setup and teaching. A switch or actuator is one part of a safety function; the complete system must be designed and validated for its application.

Ordering EUCHNER components: what we need

Send the full order number or item number from the label, the coding level and actuator required, the supply voltage and the connection type. For replacements, also give the installed device details and the mating components such as actuators and handle modules.
