HIWIN SP-FS Flange Type Linear Ball Spline Nut and Shaft
Description
The HIWIN SP-FS is the flange type of HIWIN’s linear ball spline: a spline nut that slides along a splined shaft on recirculating balls and, at the same time, transmits torque to the shaft. It is used where one shaft has to move linearly and rotate, such as in loading and unloading machines, robot arms and spindles, and the flange makes the nut easy to bolt in.
A ball spline that carries load and torque
According to the catalog, the HIWIN ball spline consists of a spline nut, a spline shaft, steel balls and a retainer, and the balls circulate endlessly between the nut and the shaft. The balls are in angular contact, so the nut carries radial and torsional loads and can move linearly along the shaft while transmitting torque, which a plain linear bearing cannot do. The three sets of balls are arranged face to face, and the retainer allows the nut to be withdrawn from the shaft without the balls falling out.
The spline nut and outer ring are one piece for a simple, compact and precise structure, and the lubrication circuit leads grease to where the balls circulate. The FS flange type is bolted to the housing through the flange holes. Ordering code, preload and selection
The code SP-20-2FS-400-500-C-S reads: SP ball spline, 20 mm shaft, two nuts on the shaft, FS flange nut, straight groove length 400 mm, total shaft length 500 mm, accuracy C and solid shaft. Choose no preload where smooth driving with small force is wanted, light preload where moment loads or high repeat accuracy are involved, and medium preload where vibration and shock demand stiffness.
HIWIN warns that misalignment between the shaft supports and the nut greatly shortens life, that the nut should not be removed from the shaft during assembly, and that short-stroke use calls for a grease with high micro-abrasion resistance. Before ordering, confirm the shaft diameter, nut type, number of nuts, groove and total length, accuracy, preload, shaft end machining and the load and torque you need.
