A short zone directly below the sensor where it cannot measure. The maximum level must stay below it.

Yes. With a flume or weir, controllers such as the FMU90 calculate flow from the measured head.
What affects ultrasonic measurement?
Heavy foam, vapour, temperature gradients and dust can weaken the echo. Radar is better in those conditions.
