Safco Italia S50 Heat Resistant Glove, 40 cm Cuff, Safal Green
Description
A five-finger heat resistant glove with an aluminized back and cuff
The Safco Italia S50 is a five-finger heat resistant glove. The palm is made of 85 % para-aramid (Kevlar) and 15 % polyamide fabric, quilted with a 1125 g/m2 felt of 50 % viscose FR and 50 % chlorofiber, and lined in heat resistant TNT fabric. The back and cuff are made from one of two aluminized fabrics, Safal Green or Safal Evo, chosen at order.
The glove is one size, with the cuff length chosen from five options between 35 and 60 cm. It is PPE of category III and the maker lists its EN 388 and EN 407 performance levels.

Choosing the fabric and the cuff length
The Safal Green version lists the higher blade cut index in EN 388 (5 against 4) and has the Oxistop insulating layer. The Safal Evo version is the heavier outer fabric at 460 g with a cotton FR lining. The two differ in EN 407 contact heat, level 3 for Safal Green and level 2 for Safal Evo, so compare the sheet values against your own risk assessment.
A longer cuff gives more forearm cover for furnace, kiln and foundry work; a shorter cuff is easier to work in. The 40 cm option (code 80.0301.032 SG+OXI) is the one used as the reference code of this page.
Where the S50 is used
The S50 belongs to the heat protection range of the manufacturer for fire services; its construction may also suit other hot tasks with radiant or contact heat, subject to your own assessment. General engineering note (not from the sheet): the performance digits are test levels, not a guarantee for a specific process; confirm temperature, contact time and flame exposure against EN 407 before choosing a glove. See other protective products in Hand Protection.
The reference code on this page is the 40 cm cuff in the Safal Green with Oxistop version. If you need a different cuff, fabric or quantity, the table above lists every code from the sheet. Note that the sheet prints the dexterity entry as EN 21420 with a level figure; confirm the exact marking on the delivered glove, because the printed marking governs. The glove is one size and is not offered in separate hand sizes.
Safco Italia is the manufacturer named on the sheet, and the S50 is also a component of its proximity suit sets such as the ST502 five-piece suit, where it is listed as the S50/35 glove with a 35 cm cuff.
How to read the EN 388 and EN 407 codes
The digit strings follow a fixed order set by each standard. In EN 388 the positions are abrasion resistance, blade cut resistance (coup test), tear resistance, puncture resistance, then a letter for the ISO 13997 cut test and a final letter for impact protection; X means the property was not tested or not applicable. In EN 407 the six positions are limited flame spread, contact heat, convective heat, radiant heat, small splashes of molten metal and large quantities of molten metal. For contact heat, EN 407 links each level to a test temperature at which the heat must take at least 15 seconds to reach the inside of the glove: level 1 at 100 °C, level 2 at 250 °C, level 3 at 350 °C and level 4 at 500 °C.
Applied to the S50, the Safal Green version (EN 407: 4 3 3 4 4 4) reaches contact heat level 3, meaning the 350 °C test, and the Safal Evo version (4 2 3 4 4 4) reaches level 2, meaning the 250 °C test. Both versions show radiant heat level 4, which comes from the aluminized back and cuff. These are standard definitions, not extra claims by the maker; the sheet values remain the reference.
Care of an aluminized glove
General engineering note (not from the sheet): the reflective layer loses performance when it is creased hard, scratched, or soiled with oil and soot, so wipe the outer surface with a damp cloth rather than washing it, let the glove dry away from direct heat, and store it flat or loosely folded. Replace the glove if the aluminized film is cracked or peeling, if the palm fabric is thinned or glazed, or if the stitching has opened. Gloves that have been exposed to a molten metal splash should be inspected before reuse.
What to include in an RFQ
Give the fabric option (Safal Green with Oxistop, or Safal Evo), the cuff length, the quantity, and whether the gloves are for a proximity suit set or stand-alone use. If the gloves will be issued to fire teams at a refinery, gas plant or foundry in Oman, mention the task so that the right cuff length can be confirmed with the code table above.
Other parts of the heat protection range
The S50 is often ordered as part of a wider heat protection kit. The same manufacturer offers the fully aluminized S40 glove, the non-aluminized S20 glove for contact heat, aluminized hoods such as the S111 with a replaceable visor, over-boots such as the S151, and complete proximity suit sets. Choosing the glove, hood, over-boots and suit from one range keeps the fabric types and protection levels consistent across the ensemble, which simplifies the risk assessment and the stock of spare parts for the fire team.
Documents and quotation
The manufacturer sheet (English) is attached. Please state the fabric (Safal Green with Oxistop, or Safal Evo) and the cuff length when requesting a quotation.
