Brand:

FIAMM 12FHT182 12 V 180 Ah Front Terminal AGM Battery

Description

12FHT182 is the largest of three 12 V front-terminal blocks in the FIAMM FHT2 high-temperature AGM range. The FHT2 folder lists 180 Ah at the 10-hour rate to 1.80 volts per cell at 20 °C, a 126 x 531 x 321 mm case and a typical weight of 58 kg.

A front-access AGM block built to run in rooms up to 35 °C

FIAMM states that the FHT2 grid alloy allows the battery to operate for a full 7 years at 35 °C, compared with 20 years at 20 °C, and to withstand frequent charge and discharge. The stated purpose is to let operators reduce cooling levels and save air-conditioning energy.

The front-terminal layout is intended for easy set-up in standard 19 inch and 23 inch cabinets and for simple visual inspection. 12FHT182 sits above 12FHT102 (95 Ah, 34 kg) and 12FHT152 (150 Ah, 50 kg), and shares its 531 mm length with the 150.

Features quoted in the FHT2 folder

  • Front-terminal layout for 19 inch and 23 inch cabinets with access for routine inspection.
  • Superior grid alloy: 7 years at 35 °C, 20 years at 20 °C, suitable for cyclic use.
  • Flame-retardant, high tensile ABS to UL94 V0 prevents case bulging.
  • Microporous separators control recombination currents and avoid thermal runaway.
  • 99 percent recyclable; maintenance-free; non-hazardous designation for road, rail and air transport.

Picking between the three FHT2 types

The folder lists only three types: 12FHT102 (95 Ah, 108 x 395 x 275 mm), 12FHT152 (150 Ah, 110 x 531 x 316 mm) and 12FHT182. Choose by the cabinet shelf: the 182 is 126 mm thick against 110 mm for the 152, and 321 mm tall against 316 mm.

Ratings are at 20 °C and the 10-hour rate; compare against the correction factors in the manual if your design temperature is higher.

Installation and maintenance notes from the manual

Mount blocks on the cabinet shelf with 5 to 10 mm between them, lift from underneath, and use connectors with the supplied insulating covers. Front-terminal designs use the special L clamp described in the manual for inter-block connections.

Every six months the manual asks for a visual check and a record of total float voltage measured at the battery terminals; yearly work adds cell-voltage checks and cleaning. The manual advises replacing batteries within 12 months once measured capacity has fallen below 80 percent of nominal, which matches the end-of-life definition used in IEC practice.

Why a 35 °C rating matters in the Gulf

The folder tags data centre, motion and telecom as applications. Remote telecom shelters and edge data rooms in Oman often struggle to hold 20 °C. This is general engineering context, not a FIAMM claim, but a front-terminal block rated for 35 °C operation and cyclic duty is the natural reference for such sites. Cyclic duty is also named in the folder, so the block can be considered where a site sees frequent short discharges, for example on unstable grid feeds, as long as the discharge depth and recharge current are set with the manual curves.

FIT is the standard front-terminal range with similar case sizes, FHB is the high-rate top-terminal range, and the accessories shown on the FIAMM site include racks, cabinets, a battery sizing tool and plugs.

Battery room and maintenance notes

Front-terminal blocks are used in 19 and 23 inch telecom cabinets, outdoor shelters and compact UPS cabinets, where front access saves space and makes maintenance easier. In the region, outdoor cabinets at telecom sites and remote installations can become very hot, so even a high-temperature design benefits from cabinet cooling, shading and correct ventilation. Set the charger’s float voltage and temperature compensation as given in the manual.

Size the string from the load and required autonomy, with an ageing margin. Torque the front terminals to the values in the manual, use the insulated covers, and recheck the connections after the first months. Record block voltages and, where possible, internal resistance during routine maintenance, so weak blocks can be replaced before they affect the string.

Keep a simple record of installation dates for each string, so replacements can be planned in good time.
