Brand: FIAMM
FIAMM 12FHB400 12 V 101 Ah High-Rate AGM Battery
Description
12FHB400 is a 12 V high-rate AGM block from the FIAMM FHB series, listed with 415 W per cell for 15 minutes to 1.67 volts per cell, 101 Ah at the 10-hour rate and 109 Ah at the 20-hour rate. The case measures 341 x 174 x 217 mm and the folder gives a typical weight of 34 kg.
High-rate power for data-centre UPS rooms that run warmer than 20 °C
The folder presents FHB as a battery designed for the highest performance, able to operate for a full 10 years at 30 °C, against 20 years at 20 °C. FIAMM explains the benefit directly: operators can raise room set-point temperatures and save air-conditioning and cooling energy.
The 12FHB400 is the second of four types. Below it is 12FHB350 (374 W per cell, 90 Ah) and above it are 12FHB450 (477 W, 115 Ah) and the tall 12FHB700 (710 W, 200 Ah), so the 400 is a mid-size block for modular UPS cabinets and racks.
Data-centre oriented features in the FHB folder
- Grid made with FIAMM superior alloy technology; 10 years at 30 °C against 20 years at 20 °C.
- Flame-retardant, high tensile ABS to UL94 V0 for superior thermal stability and no case bulging.
- Microporous separator to control recombination current and avoid thermal runaway.
- High energy density in a compact design for cabinets and racks; 99 percent recyclable.
- Maintenance-free with no topping-up; non-hazardous designation for road, rail and air transport.

Reading the FHB table when you size a string
The folder quotes power per cell, so multiply by six for a 12 V block and by the number of blocks for the string. The 15-minute rate is a typical UPS runtime basis. Always confirm the end voltage and temperature your UPS maker assumes before comparing against this table.
If cabinet depth is the constraint, note that 12FHB700 is 531 mm long but only 126 mm wide, while the 12FHB400 is 341 mm long and 174 mm wide.
Installation, charging and storage notes from the AGM manual
The AGM manual recommends a float of 2.27 V per cell at 20 °C, so 13.62 V per block, with -2.5 mV per cell per °C compensation. Boost charge at 2.40 V per cell, limited to 0.25 C10, once a year to prevent stratification, ending at 0.001 C10 or after 24 hours.
Space blocks 5 to 10 mm apart per IEC 62485-2, and do not seal a cabinet; ventilation is required. A refresh charge is due after 9 months of storage at 20 °C, 6 at 30 °C or 3 at 40 °C.
Applications named for this series
FHB is marketed to data centre operators and UPS builders. General engineering note: hot-aisle containment and desert-climate plant rooms in Oman make a battery rated for 30 °C operation a sensible shortlist item, but capacity ratings in the table are at 25 °C and the manual shows life falling as temperature rises above 20 °C, so confirm the design life against your own room temperature.

Battery room and maintenance notes
Battery life in UPS systems depends strongly on temperature. In the region, UPS rooms are air conditioned, but a failure of the cooling system or a room set warmer to save energy can shorten battery life considerably, so monitor the room temperature and set the charger’s temperature compensation as given in the manual. Size the battery string from the UPS load in watts and the required autonomy, using the constant power tables in the folder and an ageing margin.
Install the blocks on suitable racks or in cabinets with the spacing given in the manual, torque the connections to the stated values and recheck them after the first months. Record block voltages and, where possible, internal resistance at regular intervals, so weak blocks can be found before they affect the whole string.
