Brand:

Iskra IE14MD Single-Phase Energy Meter 40 A, MID, Modbus

Description

IE14MD is the top variant of the Iskra IE14xx series of single-phase meters: a 17.5 mm wide, DIN-rail meter for currents up to 40 A with MID class B approval, RS485 Modbus, an IR port, NFC and a 70 C ambient rating. It is a compact choice for sub-metering single-phase loads.

One DIN module, full communication

The IE14MD measures energy directly in two-wire networks and calculates power (active, reactive, apparent), voltage, current, frequency, power factor, power angle and THD of voltage and current. Energy is bidirectional, with class 2 reactive energy and up to four tariffs managed over communication.

The manual lists five types in the series. The IE14-S has an S0 output and no MID approval; the IE14MS adds MID and a touch button; the IE14MN adds IR and NFC; the IE14MM adds M-Bus; and the IE14MD swaps the pulse output for Modbus, with the 70 C display rating that is unique to the IE14MD. A limit control function can send an alarm and trigger a BICOM bistable switch through the side IR port.

Features stated in the data sheet

  • Single-phase direct connection, Imax 40 A, basic current 5 A, 230 V rated voltage.
  • Class 1 active energy (EN 62053-21) with MID class B (EN 50470-3); class 2 reactive energy.
  • Custom LCD with seven digits at 100 Wh resolution, backlight, capacitive touch button.
  • IR, RS485 Modbus RTU and NFC for set-up and read-out.
  • 1 DIN module width; sealable terminal cover.

Ordering codes in the series

The data sheet gives five article numbers: 022433925000 IE14-S, 022433925100 IE14MS (S0, MID), 022433925200 IE14MN (S0, IR, NFC, MID), 022433925300 IE14MM (M-Bus, IR, NFC, MID) and 022433925400 IE14MD (RS485 Modbus, IR, NFC, 70 C range, MID).

For a PLC or gateway network choose IE14MD. For utility-style M-Bus readers choose IE14MM. Where only a pulse is needed, the MN or MS types are simpler.

Installation notes

The manual allows DIN-rail mounting only. Switch off at the main fuse or breaker, check that no voltage is present and prevent accidental switch-on. A 40 A fuse is recommended for line protection, and the neutral must be connected. Stranded wire needs 12 mm ferrules with 14 mm stripped insulation.

Fit plastic security seals only, as the manual specifies. At power-up the capacitive touch sensor calibrates itself, so keep the front free of contact for a moment. After a minute without touch, the display returns to automatic cycling; the hold page function can keep one screen visible even after a power-down.

Typical applications

General engineering note: this class of meter is used to record consumption of single-phase loads such as air-conditioning units, lighting boards, small workshops, rented units and site cabins. Modbus read-out allows the energy data to be collected by a building or plant energy system.

A current rating of 40 A applies; larger loads need a CT-connected meter.

Related Iskra items

The WM1-6 is a 65 A single-phase meter with optional modules, and the IE38MD is the 80 A three-phase counterpart. Browse the power meters category for other models.

Sub-metering in Oman and the GCC

Single-phase DIN-rail meters are used in the region for metering apartments, shops and offices in mixed-use buildings, for sub-metering lighting, small pumps and air conditioning units, and for small solar or charging circuits. The 17.5 mm width helps when distribution boards are already full. The Modbus output allows a building management system to read energy and power without separate transducers. Check the panel’s internal temperature in summer, and where readings are used to bill tenants, confirm which approvals the local authority requires.
