The Reelcraft HD78005 OLB belongs to the HD70000 heavy-duty line. Reelcraft offers a chemical-resistant fluid path as an option on its most popular models, and here both the fluid path and the swivel are stainless steel, with FKM swivel seals included. The reel carries 1/2 in. hose in a 75 ft length; hose is not included.

The heavy build shows in the steel gauges: base plate and upright are 7 gauge, the guide arm 11 gauge and the spool 16 gauge. A die-cast aluminum hub and two sealed ball bearings give smoother spool rotation, the drive spring is containerized for easier handling during service, and the latch has been redesigned for longer life.

HD78005 OLB reads as the HD70000 heavy-duty chassis, 1/2 in. hose and a 75 ft capacity (the 005 ending indicates the longer-hose version); OLB is the low-pressure stainless-path version. Installation points from instructions 829-696F

Form 829-696F covers Series 7000 and HD70000 together. The reel mounts at up to 16 ft unless it was ordered for more; the supply must reach the inlet through a flexible hose and must stay within the reel pressure rating. To fit hose, the sheave is turned until the spring is tight, backed off three turns and latched.

• Sealant belongs on the input threads; leave it off the output connection.
• Charge the new hose through the control valve, then retract it.
• When the guide arm changes position, move the U-bolt too to prevent latch-out.

Corrosive and washdown service

A stainless path resists the salts and cleaning chemicals that attack carbon-steel or plain swivels in coastal Gulf plants, desalination and water-treatment areas, food and beverage washdown and marine yards. Check the compatibility of the stainless and FKM combination against your chemical before ordering; the page itself points to Technical Services for other seal options. Pressure is 500 psi, not the 3000 psi of the oil reels. Stainless steel is not inert to every chemical, and chloride-bearing solutions at warm temperatures can still cause pitting of austenitic grades, so always verify the exact fluid with the manufacturer. Reelcraft states that other seal types are available depending on compatibility.

Accessories

Listed accessories are the S600608 340 degree pivot base and the 600626 wall swing bracket. No hose is listed on this code, so select a hose with an inside diameter and pressure rating that fit the 1/2 in. NPT outlet.

The flyer for neighbouring Series 7000 reels says stainless versions exist in that series, and the HD70000 manual lists the swivel and guide-roller parts by item number. When ordering spares, quote the full code HD78005 OLB and the date code on the nameplate so the correct stainless swivel and FKM seal are supplied. Reelcraft also publishes CAD files and a hose replacement and required wraps bulletin (TB0020) that give the number of hose wraps needed to set the spring pre-tension after a hose change.

Selection and installation notes

A hose or cord reel is selected from the fluid or service, the hose size and length, the working pressure and the mounting position. Check that the hose, swivel and fittings are rated for the fluid and the pressure, mount the reel on a solid surface with the bolts and base the maker recommends, set the spring tension with the hose held, guide the hose to the reel without sharp bends and replace the hose at the first sign of wear. Do not use the reel for a fluid it is not rated for.
