DAB KDN 50-160 Standardised End-Suction Centrifugal Pump

KDN 50-160 is the DN 50 delivery, 160 mm class model of the DAB KDN standardised single-stage centrifugal pumps: a cast-iron spiral casing to DIN-EN 733 with a 65 mm suction and 50 mm delivery flange, PN 16 flanging and a liquid range of -10 to +140°C.

A standardised pump for water supply, hot water and chilled-water plant

DAB lists the KDN for water supply, hot-water circulation in heating systems, circulation of cold water for air conditioning and refrigeration, transfer of liquids in agricultural, horticultural and industrial environments, and pumping assemblies. It couples through an elastic joint (standard or spacer) to a 2-pole or 4-pole electric motor on a formed sheet-metal base to UNI EN 23661.

The pump in the table is the bare-shaft KDN 50-160. At 1450 rpm its best-efficiency point is 43.3 m3/h at 9.3 m, and at 2900 rpm it is 87.5 m3/h at 37 m. Impeller trims from /137 to /177 are tabulated; their heads at zero flow rise from 24.2 m to 41.6 m, so one casing covers several duties by trimming the impeller.

Construction from the sheet

• Cast-iron single-stage spiral body complying with DIN-EN 733 (formerly DIN 24255); flanges to DIN 2533 (DIN 2532 for DN 200).
• Closed, dynamically balanced cast-iron impeller with balancing holes for axial thrust; interchangeable wear rings available on request.
• Stainless steel pump shaft on two permanently lubricated oversized ball bearings in a dedicated support chamber.
• Standard mechanical seal to DIN 24960 in carbon/silicon carbide; packing with lubricating hydraulic ring is available on request.
• Material codes A (cast iron) and B (cast iron with bronze impeller).
• Special executions on request include liquids other than water, external flush packing and other voltages or frequencies.

Reading the KDN code

The denomination index shows how a full code is built: for example KDN 100-200/198 A W / BAQE / 1 / 5.5 / 4 gives type, nominal delivery diameter, nominal impeller diameter, actual impeller diameter, material code, seal code, coupling, motor power and poles. KDN 50-160 is the first part of that code, so state the impeller trim, material A or B, seal, motor kW and 2 or 4 poles when you ask for a quote.

Sibling bare-shaft sizes on the sheet include KDN 32-125 to 32-200, KDN 40-125 to 40-250 and KDN 50-125 to 50-250; the KDN 50-160 sits mid-range in the DN 50 group.

Installation and motor notes

Install normally in a horizontal position on a rigid base with the motor aligned through the elastic coupling. The sheet warns that above 40°C ambient or above 1000 m altitude the rated motor load must be reduced following its derating table, which matters for plant rooms in hot Gulf sites. The bare-shaft description does not include the coupling or motor data, so order those with the pump set.

Duties across Oman and the GCC

Chilled-water and condenser-water loops, hot-water heating circuits, building water supply sets and industrial transfer duties are the stated uses, and a casing built to DIN-EN 733 is the usual basis for like-for-like replacement of an existing pump (a general engineering note; check dimensions against your base). For hot, dusty or coastal plant rooms, specify the motor enclosure and seal for the duty; the sheet gives materials in cast iron and AISI 420 only, with no corrosion class for saline liquids.

A pump is selected from the duty point: the flow and the head the system needs, with the curve on the data sheet checked at that point. Confirm the liquid, its temperature and any solids, the electrical supply and the connection sizes, fit isolating valves and a non-return valve where the system needs them, protect the motor with a suitable overload device and prime the pump before running it. Do not run it dry or against a closed discharge.
