DAB S4 8/9 4-Inch Submersible Borehole Pump 1.5 kW

S4 8/9 is a nine-stage member of the DAB S4 4-inch submersible borehole pump family, nominal 8 m3/h, with a 2 inch delivery port, a 99 mm maximum diameter and a tabulated head of 54 m at zero flow when coupled to a 1.5 kW (2 HP) motor.

A 4-inch borehole pump with a choice of motor

DAB designs the S4 as a 4-inch multi-impeller borehole pump for water boosting, gardening and irrigation, and for lifting water from boreholes in residential and commercial buildings and in agricultural irrigation systems. It must be installed in wells of at least 4 inches, or in tanks or cisterns.

The code follows the denomination index on the sheet: S4 is the 4-inch pump, 8 is the nominal flow in m3/h and 9 is the number of stages. The datasheet offers the pump body only, the body with an oil-filled motor, the body with a water-filled motor, or a kit with cable, cord and control box for single-phase use. For the S4 8/9 the sheet lists both 4GG (water-filled) and 4OL (oil-filled) motors at 1.5 kW, so state the motor and phase in your enquiry.

Choosing the version of the S4 8/9

Use the pump body only if you already have a 4-inch motor, or choose the 4GG water-filled or 4OL oil-filled combination. The sheet gives the 4GG a 300 m maximum immersion depth and the 4OL 250 m, and both rewindable stators and removable cable connectors. Single-phase buyers need the control box with the capacitor and manually resettable overload protection; three-phase protection is the user’s responsibility. The S4 8/9 sits between the S4 8/7 and the S4 8/15 in head.

Installation and operation

Install the pump vertically in the well; horizontal installation is possible but the sheet recommends a cooling sleeve. Keep sand below 150 g/m3 and do not exceed 20 starts an hour. Cable lengths of 15, 30 or 40 m are supplied depending on the model, and the S4 8/9 is in the 15 m group. For inverter operation the sheet states the motor is suitable between 30 and 50 Hz.

Borehole and irrigation duties in Oman

With 54 m at shut-off and up to about 10 m3/h plotted, the S4 8/9 suits farm and plantation irrigation, villa and camp boreholes and tank filling. Check the sheet limit of 0 to +40°C for the water, which matters for shallow wells in summer, and confirm the aquifer sand content before choosing between oil-filled and water-filled motors.

A submersible pump is selected from the liquid, the solids size, the head and the depth of the pit or well. Lower it on a chain or rope and not by the cable, keep it clear of the pit floor, fit a float switch or level control so it cannot run dry, use a cable and breaker rated for the motor and check the direction of rotation on three-phase models. Clean the inlet and inspect the pump at regular intervals.
