Brand:

Speakman SE-590 10-Gallon Portable Eyewash with Drench Hose

Description

The Speakman SE-590 is a portable pressurized emergency eyewash built around a 10 US gallon stainless steel tank. Instead of relying on gravity, the tank is charged with air, and the unit is fitted with a pressure gauge, air filler, pressure relief valve and a stay-open ball valve that is opened by pushing a stainless steel handle back 90 degrees. Two yellow ABS spray outlets with flip-off dust covers deliver the flushing stream.

What sets the SE-590 apart from the other portable eyewashes on this page set is the 6 ft reinforced drench hose with a squeeze-handle valve and non-aerated spray nozzle, which allows spot washing of the body or the face after the eyes have been flushed. The page lists the country of origin as the United States.

Charging, operation and maintenance

The sheet is precise about charging: assemble the bullhorn assembly and 3/8 in pipe to the 3/8 in ball valve with the assembly parallel to the paddle handle and tank handle, fill the tank with 8 gallons of water, then pressurize it to 85 psi of air, and recharge after each use. Activate the eyewash by pushing the handle back; water discharges until the handle is pulled back. The drench hose valve is self-closing and runs only while the handle is squeezed. Replace the water and clean the tank at least monthly, draining it through the drench hose. Weekly activation and a record on the supplied tag (91-0635) are required by the ANSI practice the sheet cites.

Selection and ordering guide

If a drench hose is not needed, SE-591 is the 10 gallon pressurized portable without it, and the GravityFlo SE-4000 offers 21 gallons without needing compressed air. The SE-590 repair parts named on the sheet include the G05-0735 low flow bullhorn assembly, the RPG20-1978 non-aerated drench hose assembly, the 04-0841 paddle handle, the 05-1670-MO tank and the 05-1671-MO pressure gauge.

Applications in GCC industry

A stainless steel tank that carries its own pressure and a hand-held drench hose suit fabrication yards, maintenance shops, chemical transfer areas and mobile crews who move between jobs. The stainless construction handles outdoor storage better than plastic tanks, but the unit still needs shade and regular water changes in hot weather. Pressure systems need an air supply and a filling adapter, so make sure the site has them before ordering.

Installation and selection notes

The pressurised tank must be charged with air to the pressure stated in the instruction, and the gauge, relief valve and hose should be checked on a schedule. Because the stored water ages, replace it at the interval given by the manufacturer, and place the unit where it can be reached quickly. The drench hose is for spot washing and does not replace a shower in a major exposure.
