VEGA VEGAVIB 62 Suspended Vibrating Level Switch up to 80 m

Description

A cable-suspended vibrating switch for tall silos

The VEGAVIB 62 hangs the same smooth vibrating rod as the VEGAVIB 61 on a suspension cable, so the switching point is set by cable length instead of by where the nozzle sits. VEGA gives a cable range of 0.3 to 80 m in the product information, and the specification sheet describes the relay (DPDT) version with 20…253 V AC or 20…72 V DC supply. It suits granular and coarse-grained bulk solids in tall silos where a wall-mounted switch cannot reach the right height, and the rod design without corners avoids jamming. The cable is PUR or FEP and wetted parts are 316L.

Where the cable version is chosen

Switches on a cable are used when the point sits far from the wall: in a 30 m silo a single VEGAVIB 62 can be lowered to the correct height from the roof. The product information gives the cable length as 0.3 to 80 m and mentions the lock fitting only for tube versions, not for cables. A heavy bulk solid exerts tensile load on the cable and the weight on the fork, so ask the manufacturer for the permissible load in the operating instructions.

Data to resolve before ordering

There is an inconsistency between the sheet (-40…+150 °C) and the product information table (-20…+80 °C for the 62), so for a hot silo confirm the allowable process temperature of the cable version with VEGA. Please send the cable length, the process fitting, the product’s bulk density and temperature, the output (relay DPDT, transistor or two-wire) and the required approvals when you request a quote.

The suspension cable can be shortened to the required length during installation of the silo probe and the housing is available in plastic, stainless steel or aluminium with protection up to IP67. Since the rod hangs freely, consider vibration and product movement: a swinging probe in a silo with strong material flow can see changing coverage, and a cable version works best where the product moves slowly toward the outlet. Ask the manufacturer about anchoring options if the silo has strong product movement.

Documents and quotation

The official VEGA VEGAVIB 62 (relay DPDT) specification sheet (34635-EN, version 151205) is attached to this page for download and covers the technical data, dimensions and wiring summarised above.

About brand

VEGA is a German maker of level and pressure instruments. Bruno Grieshaber founded the company in 1959 in Triberg in the Black Forest, and it has been based in Schiltach since 1975, still family owned as VEGA Grieshaber KG. VEGA is best known for radar level sensors: it introduced the first two-wire radar level sensor in 1997 and the first 80 GHz radar sensor for bulk solids, the VEGAPULS 69, in 2015.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing VEGA radar and guided wave radar transmitters, point level switches, pressure transmitters and signal conditioning instruments for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Sensors are matched from the product code on the type label.

Where VEGA instruments are used

VEGA radar sensors measure level in crude oil and product tanks, separators, chemical reactors, cement and aggregate silos, grain stores and water reservoirs. Compact cable radars are widely used in wastewater pumping stations and flood monitoring. Because 80 GHz radar focuses a narrow beam, it can measure past internal structures in a tank, and it is not affected by the temperature, pressure or vapour above the product, which suits hot Gulf storage tanks.

Ordering VEGA instruments: what we need

The product code on the type label (for example PS64.XXXXXXX) fixes the measuring range, antenna or probe, process connection, electronics and approvals. Send it with the serial number. For a new measurement add the medium and its dielectric constant if known, tank or silo height and internals, process pressure and temperature, process connection, output (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS PA, Modbus or IO-Link), and any hazardous-area or overfill protection approval required.
