VEGA VEGASWING 53 IO-Link Vibrating Level Switch with Tube

Description

A tube-extension vibrating switch with IO-Link for adjustable switching points

The VEGASWING 53 takes the compact VEGASWING 51 and adds a tube extension of 100 to 1000 mm so that the switching point can be placed where the process needs it, for example in the upper third of a tank or in the middle of a pipe. The sheet covers the IO-Link version with a 9.6…35 V DC supply and maximum 0.5 W power consumption, and VEGA lists transistor (PNP) and contactless electronic switch variants too. As with the 51, the sensor is stated to work independently of mounting position, density and viscosity within the sheet limits, with millimetre-accurate switching.

Why IO-Link on a level switch

An IO-Link switch can send its status, a diagnostic message and parameters to the master, so a plant can replace a sensor and download its parameters automatically instead of adjusting it by hand. In the sheet the three electronics are the PNP transistor, IO-Link and the contactless electronic switch, all with the same 316L tube probe. For plants that have standardised on IO-Link masters, the 53 gives switching plus diagnosis on one M12 connector line.

Mounting a tube-type fork

VEGA’s mounting guidance covers the tube versions: the fork should protrude into the vessel to avoid buildup, agitators can excite resonance in an overly long tube (in which case VEGA suggests a support or guy above the fork or a side-mounted VEGASWING 51 instead), and a lock fitting can provide stepless height adjustment where pressure data permit and the sensor is not coated. Check that the fork does not sit in the filling stream, and tell us the required tube length with the thread size.

Because the fork is carried on a tube, the 53 reaches past tank-wall build-up and into the bulk of the liquid where a side-mounted compact switch could be covered by splashing. The extension is selectable from 100 to 1000 mm, which standardises spare parts: one thread and electronics with a few tube lengths. The temperature adapter version extends the process temperature to +150 °C, and VEGA’s density switch setting (at least 0.7 g/cm³ as delivered, optionally 0.5) should be matched to light liquids such as solvents.

About brand

VEGA is a German maker of level and pressure instruments. Bruno Grieshaber founded the company in 1959 in Triberg in the Black Forest, and it has been based in Schiltach since 1975, still family owned as VEGA Grieshaber KG. VEGA is best known for radar level sensors: it introduced the first two-wire radar level sensor in 1997 and the first 80 GHz radar sensor for bulk solids, the VEGAPULS 69, in 2015.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing VEGA radar and guided wave radar transmitters, point level switches, pressure transmitters and signal conditioning instruments for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Sensors are matched from the product code on the type label.

Where VEGA instruments are used

VEGA radar sensors measure level in crude oil and product tanks, separators, chemical reactors, cement and aggregate silos, grain stores and water reservoirs. Compact cable radars are widely used in wastewater pumping stations and flood monitoring. Because 80 GHz radar focuses a narrow beam, it can measure past internal structures in a tank, and it is not affected by the temperature, pressure or vapour above the product, which suits hot Gulf storage tanks.

Ordering VEGA instruments: what we need

The product code on the type label (for example PS64.XXXXXXX) fixes the measuring range, antenna or probe, process connection, electronics and approvals. Send it with the serial number. For a new measurement add the medium and its dielectric constant if known, tank or silo height and internals, process pressure and temperature, process connection, output (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS PA, Modbus or IO-Link), and any hazardous-area or overfill protection approval required.
