Danfoss 134U7735 VLT Midi Drive FC 280, 5.5 kW, PROFINET
Description
A 5.5 kW VLT Midi Drive FC 280 in the K2 frame with PROFINET
The 134U7735 is Danfoss order number for FC-280P5K5T4E20H1BXCXXXSXXXXAL, a 5.5 kW (7.5 hp) VLT Midi Drive FC 280 on three-phase 380-480 V. With a continuous output of 12 A at 380-440 V it handles medium pumps, compressors, mixers and conveyors, and it is built in the K2 frame, 90 mm wide and 272.5 mm high, a housing that also serves the 3.0 and 4.0 kW ratings. The brake chopper, DC choke, RFI filter and PROFINET control card are integrated, which saves panel space compared with a drive that needs external filter and brake modules.

Sizing, thermal and accessory guidance
At 5.5 kW the loss is 157.5 W, almost three times the 52.9 W of the 1.5 kW drive, so panel ventilation deserves attention. Mains current is 11.2 A at 400 V, which sets fuse and cable sizing. The design guide gives 4 mm2 as the largest cable cross-section for this size. Accessories listed by Danfoss include the LCP 21 (132B0254), LCP 102 (130B1107), memory module MCM 102 (132B0359) and the IP21/Type 1 kit for K2 (132B0336). Heavy-duty ratings are 160% for 60 s on drives up to 7.5 kW.
The drive does not include a display, so budget for one LCP per commissioning team rather than per drive. Our Danfoss VLT Midi Drive FC 280 family page shows the full range. Confirm the PROFINET configuration of your PLC before ordering.
The fact sheet gives the supply tolerance as 380-480 V (-15%/+10%) at 50/60 Hz with a displacement power factor near unity (above 0.98), and the integrated DC chokes of three-phase units keep harmonic distortion below 48% THDi in line with IEC/EN 61000-3-2 and 61000-3-12, which can reduce the need for external line reactors where several drives share one transformer. The design guide allows 45 °C at full output, 55 °C with derating, humidity of 5-95% non-condensing and altitude up to 1000 m, or 3000 m with derating.
Mounting the K2 frame in a control cabinet
The narrow K2 housing allows several FC 280 drives to be mounted close together on a back plate, but tight spacing only works if the cabinet can remove the combined losses of all the drives inside it. Add up the power loss of every drive and other heat source in the enclosure, and select fans, filters or cooling units for that total. Follow the clearance above and below the drive given in the Danfoss operating guide so that cooling air can flow freely across the heat sink.
Bring the mains supply, motor cable and control wiring into the drive along separate routes. A screened motor cable with the screen clamped close to the drive helps the integrated RFI filter achieve its EMC category. Run the PROFINET cable away from motor leads and use industrial Ethernet connectors and cable suited to the cabinet environment.
Commissioning over PROFINET
Because the 134U7735 has no display, commissioning is normally done with a plugged-in LCP or from engineering software, then completed from the PLC. Import the device description file for the drive into the PLC engineering tool, assign the device name used in the network configuration, and check that the cyclic data exchange starts without errors before enabling the motor.
Enter the motor nameplate values, run the motor adaptation routine where the application allows it, and set ramps, speed limits and the reaction to a communication loss. Decide in advance whether the drive should stop, hold its last speed or go to a preset speed if the PLC connection drops, as the right choice depends on the process. When settings are final, store a copy so that a replacement drive can be loaded quickly.
Ambient conditions in Oman and the GCC
Summer temperatures in plant rooms and outdoor kiosks across Oman and the Gulf can push cabinet air beyond the 45 °C full-output limit noted above. In that case either improve the cooling or apply the derating from the design guide, and check the motor current under the hottest expected conditions. The coated PCB indicated in the type code improves resistance to humid and contaminated air, but it does not replace a clean, sealed enclosure.
Wind-blown sand and cement or process dust settle on heat sinks and reduce cooling. Use filtered air inlets and check the filters more often during dusty months. In coastal and desalination installations, prevent condensation forming on the electronics during night-time cooling or long idle periods.
Checks before selecting this rating
Compare the motor full-load current with the 12 A continuous output, and confirm whether the application needs the heavy-duty overload capability at start or during load changes. Check that the PLC platform supports PROFINET communication with the drive, that a braking resistor is required or not for the stopping duty, and that the cable size fits the drive terminals. Decide how many LCP units the maintenance team will need for setup and fault finding.

About brand
From its headquarters in Nordborg, Denmark, where it was founded in 1933, Danfoss makes the drives, valves and sensors found in pump rooms, chiller plants and cold stores. Its blue VLT frequency converters are probably the most familiar of them.
Seven Star LLC lists Danfoss VLT drives, pressure transmitters, refrigeration valves and HVAC control valves, and supplies them to contractors and plant owners in Oman against the exact code number on the label.
Danfoss product families on this page
Among the VLT drives listed, three are each aimed at a different duty: the VLT HVAC Drive FC 102 for fans and building services, the VLT AQUA Drive FC 202 for water and wastewater pumping, and the VLT AutomationDrive FC 302 for general industrial machinery. The LCP 12 control panel with potentiometer (code number 132B0101) is also listed; Danfoss specifies it for the VLT Micro Drive FC 51. In pressure measurement there are the MBS 3000 general purpose transmitter and the MBS 5100. Valves include the AB-QM pressure independent control valve in DN 15 to DN 250, the EVR 25 servo-operated solenoid valve and the ICV pilot-operated valve for industrial refrigeration.
Where Danfoss equipment is used
District cooling and chilled water plants, air handling units, booster and irrigation pump stations, desalination and wastewater works, ammonia and CO2 refrigeration plants, food storage and marine engine rooms are the usual places. Demand in the GCC is driven largely by cooling and water.
Ordering Danfoss parts: what we need
Every Danfoss product has a code number, and drives also carry a long type code string on the label. Send both. For a drive we need the motor power and current, the mains voltage, enclosure rating, any fieldbus or option card and the filter class. For an MBS transmitter give the pressure span, output signal, pressure connection and electrical connection. For valves give the size, connection type, coil voltage where relevant and the refrigerant or medium.
