The Micro Motion H-Series is a hygienic Coriolis family for sanitary process control. Wetted parts are 316L stainless steel with a 30 Ra (0.76 µm) finish on the S models or a 15 Ra (0.38 µm) finish on the F models, in a compact, self-draining design for CIP and SIP. The datasheet quotes up to ±0.05 percent liquid mass flow accuracy and ±0.5 kg/m3 density accuracy and lists ASME BPE, EHEDG and 3-A hygienic standards.

Choosing between sizes and finishes

Each model covers a band of line sizes, so the usual route is to pick the sensor by flow and pressure drop and then choose the hygienic fitting. The 15 Ra F models suit the most demanding hygiene specifications, while the 30 Ra S models cover general sanitary duty. The sensor can be fitted with the same MVD transmitter options as other Micro Motion sensors, including 2200S, 2400S, 1700/2700 and 3700 housings with IP66 to IP69K ratings depending on the model. The case is a separate pressure boundary. The datasheet lists maximum case working pressure with a safety factor of four on burst: H025 471 psig (32 barg), H050 383 psig (26 barg), H100 320 psig (22 barg), H150 201 psig (14 barg), H200 190 psig (13 barg), H300 417 psig (29 barg) and H400 241 psig (17 barg). If process pressure is far above the case rating, consider a rupture disk, and note that fitting one means the case can no longer act as secondary containment.

How the Micro Motion H-Series works

A Coriolis meter has tubes that vibrate. When liquid flows through them, the tubes twist slightly, and sensors measure the twist. The twist is proportional to the mass flow. The vibration frequency also changes with the density of the liquid, so one meter reports both mass flow and density. The H-Series is built with smooth, self-draining tubes for sanitary lines.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the Micro Motion H-Series

Mount the sensor so that it drains fully and that the process can fill it without air pockets. Support the pipe so the sensor carries no pipe load. Connect the transmitter and set the flow range. Zero the meter with the line full and the flow stopped. Use Smart Meter Verification to check the health of the meter at intervals.
