Micro Motion F-Series Coriolis Flow and Density Meters

Description

Compact, drainable Coriolis meters for critical process control

The Micro Motion F-Series is a family of Coriolis flow and density meters built around a compact, self-draining dual-tube sensor. It measures mass flow, volume flow, density and temperature in one device, with no moving parts to wear. The datasheet quotes up to ±0.05 percent liquid mass flow accuracy and up to ±0.5 kg/m3 liquid density accuracy for the premium calibration, and the line sizes suit batching, distribution, allocation and intra-plant measurement. Wetted parts are 316L stainless steel or nickel alloy C22.

Choosing a size, transmitter and options

Size the meter on flow and allowable pressure drop rather than on line size alone. The datasheet defines nominal flow as the water flow that causes about 1 barg of pressure drop, and gas duty should always be sized with the manufacturer tool because pressure drop depends on pressure, temperature and composition. F-Series sensors pair with the 5700, 4200, 1700/2700, 1500/2500, 1600, 3500/3700 and FMT transmitters in integral, remote, wall-mount or DIN-rail forms. Process connections include ASME B16.5 flanges to CL900/1500, EN 1092-1 and DIN flanges, JIS flanges, Tri-Clamp compatible and DIN 11851 hygienic fittings and VCO or VCR fittings, depending on the model. Two-phase flow affects every Coriolis meter; the F150 runs at a high drive frequency above 300 Hz and the other sizes in the mid range of 150 to 300 Hz, so confirm entrained gas conditions with the manufacturer. See also the higher-accuracy Micro Motion ELITE CMF series and the Micro Motion 5700 transmitter.

What to confirm before ordering

  • Fluid, density, viscosity, flow range, pressure and temperature, and any entrained gas
  • Wetted material (S, H, P, A or B) and process connection code with rating and facing
  • Transmitter model, mounting and output or protocol, plus hazardous area approval
  • Custody transfer or marine approval, because not every model carries every listing
  • JIS-flanged sensors do not comply with ASME B31.1 power piping, as stated in the datasheet

How the Micro Motion F-Series works

The fluid flows through two vibrating tubes. The mass of the fluid changes how the tubes twist. The sensor measures that twist and calculates the mass flow. The tube frequency gives the density and a sensor on the tube gives the temperature.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the Micro Motion F-Series

Mount the sensor so that it drains and stays full of liquid. Support the pipework so that it does not strain the sensor. Connect the transmitter and run the zero procedure with the line full and the flow stopped. Check the zero at regular visits.

About brand

Coriolis flow and density meters have carried the Micro Motion name since 1977, when the company started in Boulder, USA. A Coriolis meter measures mass flow directly and reads density from the same tubes. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Oman, lists the Micro Motion ELITE CMF400 Coriolis flow and density meter and the compact G-Series, and sources Micro Motion flow meters by complete model code.

Micro Motion meter families

ELITE is the manufacturer's top performance family for flow and density, and the CMF400 is one of its larger line sizes. The G-Series is a newer, very compact family for general duty. Each sensor is paired with a Coriolis transmitter, and the range also includes density and viscosity meters. Liquids, gases and slurries can all be measured, which is why these meters appear in oil and gas, refining, chemical, food and marine service.

Ordering Micro Motion meters: what we need

A Micro Motion sensor and its transmitter each have their own model code and serial number; send both. For a new meter we need the fluid, flow range, density, viscosity, operating pressure and temperature, line size, process connection and rating, wetted material, hazardous area approval, outputs and protocol. Custody transfer duty in the GCC should be stated up front because it changes the approvals and calibration options requested.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do the letters in an F-Series model such as F100S mean?
The number is the size and the final letter is the wetted material or duty: S 316L stainless steel, H nickel alloy C22, P high pressure, A high-temperature 316L and B high-temperature C22.
What accuracy can the F-Series achieve?
The datasheet gives up to ±0.05% of liquid mass flow and ±0.5 kg/m3 density for the premium level, with enhanced, intermediate and basic levels below it. Not every option is offered on every model.
Can the F-Series measure gas?
Yes. Gas mass flow accuracy is ±0.35% of rate on F050S/H to F400S and ±0.5% on F025, high-temperature and high-pressure models. Size gas duty with the manufacturer tool.
What is the maximum pressure rating?
Standard stainless models are rated 1,450 psig (100 barg), nickel alloy models 2,160 psig (149 barg), and the F050P high-pressure model 5,800 psig (400 barg). The process connection can lower the limit.
Which transmitters can be paired with the F-Series?
The datasheet lists the 5700, 4200, 1700/2700, 1500/2500, 1600, 3500/3700 and FMT, with availability depending on the sensor size.
