Brand: Hughes Safety Showers
Hughes OptiWash Wall Mounted 38 L Gravity Fed Eye Wash
Description
The Hughes OptiWash is a slimline wall mounted self-contained eye/face wash with a 38 litre tank, for locations with no continuous potable water supply.
A wall mounted eye wash with its own water
The datasheet says the 38 litre (10 US gal) tank delivers a controlled flow of at least 1.5 litres per minute for 15 minutes, meeting EN15154 and ANSI Z358.1-2014 requirements as stated by the manufacturer. A pull down manifold starts the flow, and the delivery manifold drains unused water away, which reduces the risk of stagnating water becoming trapped. A wall mounting bracket is included.
The body is high visibility orange high density polyethylene with polypropylene spray heads, handles to aid installation and a wide filling opening. It is suitable for indoor use; optional insulated or heated jackets allow outdoor installation, which makes it relevant to hot and cold exposure alike. Empty weight is 5.8 kg and full weight 42 kg.

Choosing between OptiWash, STD-68G and a plumbed unit
OptiWash is the wall mounted option; the STD-68G is a larger 45 litre unit for a table or wall, and the stainless STD-58G is pressurised. All three rely on stored water, so each needs a refill routine and a record of the last change. A plumbed unit is the better answer where a potable line is available.
Fix the bracket to a wall able to carry 42 kg when full, at a height that suits the eye wash operating position described by the standards summaries, in a clearly signed, lit place with a clear approach. If the location is outdoors, the manufacturer lists insulated and heated jackets, with a separate jacket datasheet, for cold and hot exposure; the standard unit is described as suitable for indoor use.
| Hughes model | Configuration | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| STD-68G | 45 L portable gravity fed eye wash | Table or wall mounted back-up |
| STD-58G | 28 L portable stainless eye wash | Secondary eye rinse |
| STD-38G | 15 L eye, face and body wash with handheld | Minor splash rinse |
| STD-40K/45G | Mobile 114 L shower and eye wash | Stand-by and shutdown cover |
Options and what to confirm before ordering
Listed options are an eye wash sign, an insulated jacket, a heated jacket, Hydroclenz for the eye wash and a water preservative additive. Confirm the wall construction, whether jackets are needed, the heated jacket supply, and the refill and inspection routine.
Documents and quotation
Two Hughes documents are linked from this page: the English datasheet for OptiWash and the installation, operation and maintenance guide for its family, both unaltered. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat and prepares quotations for OptiWash and related Hughes models once the request states where the unit will be mounted, who will refill it, and the routine for water changes and tests. More site safety equipment is listed under Safety and PPE.
