Hughes STD-38G Portable 15 L Eye, Face and Body Wash
Description
The Hughes STD-38G is a compact 15 litre stainless steel cylinder with a trigger-operated handheld Optiflex on a flexible hose for decontaminating eyes, face and parts of the body.
A handheld rinse for small chemical splashes
The datasheet describes it as effective where small spillages of chemicals are possible and hazardous to employees. The unheated 15 litre (4 US gal) cylinder supplies the handheld Optiflex, which is trigger activated and has a lock-on device so the user can keep both hands free to hold the eyelids open. A gauge visible on top shows the pressure to prevent over pressurisation, and a dual action safety valve lets the user vent the cylinder for cleaning and maintenance.
The flow is 6 litres per minute, and the product page states two minutes of potable water, so it is for short, local rinsing before the casualty reaches a fixed eye wash or shower. Operating pressure is 6.9 bar g (100 psi), burst pressure 69 bar g.

Filling, pressurising and storing it
The unit is small enough to hang or stand near a decanting point, a sampling station or a vehicle. The manufacturer provides a video in the product image carousel on how to fill and pressurise the cylinder, and an installation guide is attached to the page. Follow the filling and pressurising instructions, and vent the cylinder before cleaning.
With only two minutes of water it should be regarded as a first-aid style rinse. Hughes’ summaries of EN15154 and ANSI Z358.1-2014 describe fixed units giving 15 minutes of flow, so the site plan should show where the casualty goes next. Treat the water as perishable and refresh it on a schedule, using the preservative option if appropriate.
| Hughes model | Configuration | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| STD-68G | 45 L portable gravity fed eye wash | Table or wall mounted back-up |
| STD-58G | 28 L portable stainless eye wash | Secondary eye rinse |
| OptiWash | 38 L wall mounted gravity fed eye wash | No plumbed supply |
| STD-40K/45G | Mobile 114 L shower and eye wash | Stand-by and shutdown cover |
Options and what to confirm before ordering
Listed options are an eye wash sign, a GRP cabinet, Hydroclenz for the eye wash and a water preservative additive. Confirm where it will be stored, the cabinet requirement for outdoor or dusty areas, the inspection interval and who is trained to fill and pressurise it.
Documents and quotation
Two Hughes documents are linked from this page: the English datasheet for STD-38G and the installation, operation and maintenance guide for its family, both unaltered. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat and prepares quotations for STD-38G and related Hughes models once the request states where the unit will be mounted, who will refill it, and the routine for water changes and tests. More site safety equipment is listed under Safety and PPE.
