Petzl GRILLON Adjustable Work-Positioning Lanyard
Description
An adjustable positioning lanyard that fine-tunes length at the workstation
The Petzl GRILLON (reference L052AA00 for the 2 m white/yellow version) is an adjustable lanyard for work positioning, used to build positioning systems that complement a separate fall-arrest system. Its length can be adjusted easily and precisely so that the worker is positioned comfortably, and it works in two ways. In double mode on the harness side attachment points, the user works with weight on their feet and the load is shared across the waistbelt; length is changed by pressing the pivoting cam. In single mode on the ventral attachment point, used when the anchor is above the user, length is changed by operating the handle while holding the free end.
The GRILLON is sold without a connector so that it can be combined with the connector type the job needs. Both ends have sewn terminations with a plastic sheath that holds the connector in position and protects the rope from abrasion, and a colour-coded label at the connector end shows the length at a glance. It is designed to be repairable: replacement rope, screw and protective sheath are available as spare parts.

Selecting and using the lanyard
Choose the length from the distance between the anchor and the worker. Pick the connector separately, and match it to the anchor type; a large-gate connector suits steel sections. A work-positioning lanyard does not provide fall arrest, so the worker must also be protected by a fall-arrest system. Petzl recommends a detailed inspection by a competent person at least once every 12 months, and the instructions for use require the clearance below the user to be verified for any fall-arrest system used alongside.
Choosing the right GRILLON version
The standard GRILLON covers most work-positioning tasks where the lanyard length must be changed often during the job. Choose the length from the real distance between the anchor and the worker, adding margin for going around a structure in double mode, but avoid an excessively long lanyard that leaves loose rope in the work area. The GRILLON PLUS listed above uses aramid fibre rope for better abrasion resistance where the rope may rub on rough edges. The GRILLON HOOK and GRILLON MGO come with specific connectors, while the standard GRILLON is supplied without one, giving the user freedom to choose a connector that suits the anchor and the harness.
Typical applications
Work-positioning lanyards are used where a worker needs both hands free while held in position, such as on steel structures, pylons and towers, poles, scaffolding, roof structures and tree work. In double mode, passing the lanyard around a pole or beam and connecting both ends to the harness side attachment points lets the worker lean back with weight on the feet. In single mode, connected to the ventral attachment point with the anchor above, the worker can adjust height and position in front of the task.
Using the lanyard as part of a complete system
A work-positioning lanyard is one part of a system. The harness must have attachment points suited to work positioning, the connector must be compatible with both the lanyard terminations and the anchor, and a separate fall-arrest system must protect the worker. Before each use, check the rope, the sewn terminations, the sheaths and the adjuster according to the instructions for use, and withdraw the lanyard from service if any doubt exists about its condition. Keep a record of the periodic inspections carried out by a competent person.
Users should be trained in both modes of use, including how to adjust length safely while under load. Practice at ground level, before working at height, helps the worker become familiar with the cam and handle operation.
Care, storage and service life
Keep the lanyard clean and dry, away from chemicals, sharp edges and sources of heat, and store it loosely coiled out of direct sunlight. Follow the cleaning and storage guidance in the Petzl instructions for use. Mark each lanyard so it can be traced in the inspection records, and retire it after any serious load or whenever the inspection raises a doubt. Consistent care and record keeping help crews know at a glance which equipment is fit for use on each job.
How to specify your request for quotation
State the Petzl reference from the table, which fixes both the length and the colour, along with the quantity. Mention the connector type you plan to use and the standard that applies on site, so that the request can be checked for compatibility. If several lengths are needed for different crews, list each reference separately.
Documents and quotation
The attached Petzl instructions for use cover the GRILLON lanyard. Confirm the exact reference, size or length, the standard required on site (CE, ANSI or CSA) and the compatibility of every component before ordering. For a quotation, send the reference, quantity and intended use. Browse more Safety and PPE products on this site.
