Moog 79 Series Flow Control Servo Valve
Description
Overview
Moog 79 Series is a three-stage flow control servo valve family delivering rated flows of 115 to 225 l/min, designed as a robust throttle valve for 3- and 4-way industrial hydraulic applications where high dynamic performance must coexist with heavy-duty, continuous operation. Built to the Size 6 (ISO 10372-06-05-0-92) mounting interface and rated for operating pressures up to 350 bar, the 79 Series is specified into some of the most demanding industrial flow-control tasks that Moog’s catalog covers.
Backed by manufacturer datasheet documentation, Seven Star LLC proudly supplies the Moog 79 Series servo valve to industrial buyers across Oman and the wider GCC, backed by genuine factory support, full traceability, and access to Moog’s global engineering documentation. Heavy industry operators in Muscat, Sohar, and Salalah can source this exact valve family through Seven Star LLC with a formal quotation and the manufacturer datasheet.
Operating Principle
The Moog 79 Series uses a three-stage design in which a torque-motor first stage drives a hydraulic pilot stage, which positions the main-stage spool with electrical feedback taken directly on the main spool itself. This direct main-spool feedback, rather than feedback taken further back in the control chain, is what gives the 79 Series its combination of low hysteresis and excellent linearity even at the valve’s relatively high rated flow of 115 to 225 l/min. The valve achieves a 100% step response of approximately 14 milliseconds and a frequency response of roughly 55 Hz at 90° phase lag, figures that place it firmly in true servo-valve territory rather than the slower proportional-valve class.
Because the main-stage spool slides in a precision-lapped bushing and is driven through a closed electrical feedback loop on that same spool, the 79 Series modulates flow smoothly and continuously across 3- and 4-way circuit configurations, with rated current inputs of 15 or 40 mA (single coil) covering standard control signal ranges of 20 to 50 mA. The practical consequence is a valve that combines the throughput of a heavy industrial throttle valve with the dynamic precision and repeatability normally associated with smaller, lower-flow servo valves.
Engineering Design of the Moog 79 Series
Physically, the Moog 79 Series is built around a substantial Size 6 valve body weighing approximately 10.9 kg, machined to the ISO 10372-06-05-0-92 mounting pattern used across several of Moog’s heavier industrial servo valve families. The three-stage construction is housed in a single robust assembly rated for maximum operating pressures of 210, 310, or 350 bar depending on the ordered configuration, giving system designers flexibility to match the valve to their hydraulic power unit’s working pressure without over- or under-specifying the valve body.
Electrical feedback taken directly on the main spool is wired through the valve’s terminal connections alongside the torque-motor drive coils, and the standard rated current configurations of 15 or 40 mA single coil allow the 79 Series to interface with a wide range of existing industrial servo amplifiers without custom signal conditioning. The valve’s mass and mounting pattern are sized for permanent installation on heavy hydraulic power units rather than for frequent removal, and its rugged construction is intended to sustain continuous duty in mills, presses, and test equipment operating around the clock.
Key Features
The Moog 79 Series combines heavy-duty flow capacity with genuine servo-valve dynamic performance, and the Moog 79 Series is trusted across continuous-duty industrial installations.
- The valve delivers standard rated flows of 115 or 225 l/min at a 70 bar pressure drop, suited to demanding 3- and 4-way industrial throttle applications.
- Maximum operating pressure options of 210, 310, or 350 bar allow the valve to be matched to the hydraulic power unit’s actual working pressure.
- Electrical feedback taken directly on the main spool delivers low hysteresis and excellent linearity across the operating range.
- A 100% step response of approximately 14 milliseconds provides genuine servo-valve dynamic performance at relatively high flow.
- Frequency response of roughly 55 Hz at 90° phase lag supports fast, closed-loop industrial motion control tasks.
- Standard rated current configurations of 15 or 40 mA single coil interface directly with common industrial servo amplifiers.
- The Size 6 (ISO 10372-06-05-0-92) mounting interface is shared with several of Moog’s other heavy-duty industrial servo valve families.
- The rugged, approximately 10.9 kg valve body is built for continuous, around-the-clock duty on heavy hydraulic power units.
Industrial Applications
The Moog 79 Series is specified wherever an Oman industrial facility needs heavy-duty flow control with genuine servo-valve dynamics rather than a slower proportional throttle valve. In steel and metal processing plants across the Sohar industrial zone, 79 Series valves regulate tensioning and positioning cylinders on continuous rolling and casting lines, where the combination of high flow and low hysteresis directly affects final product tolerance. Large hydraulic presses and heavy-equipment test rigs throughout the GCC use the same valve family for its fast step response and stable frequency response under sustained, continuous-duty operation, while marine and port equipment integrators in Salalah specify the 79 Series for heavy crane and mooring winch actuation systems.
Working closely with plant engineers in the region, Seven Star LLC distributes the 79 Series servo valve to plants throughout the Sultanate of Oman, Muscat, and the Sohar and Salalah economic zones, as well as neighboring GCC markets, supporting heavy industry, port infrastructure, and test-laboratory operators that need dependable, high-flow servo performance. Because the 79 Series is typically embedded in continuous-duty, production-critical hydraulic circuits, regional buyers depend on Seven Star LLC to quote Moog hardware, correct pressure-rating configuration, and direct access to Moog’s technical support network rather than unsupported parallel-import unit.

About brand
The electrohydraulic servo valve is the product that made Moog, founded in 1951 in East Aurora, New York. Its industrial valves and motors position turbine governors, presses and test rigs where fast, accurate motion matters. Seven Star LLC lists Moog servo valves, proportional valves and an explosion-proof brushless servo motor, and sources them by model and type number for plants in Oman.
Moog servo valves and motors listed
The Moog products on this page are:
- G761 series: two-stage flow control servo valve with mechanical feedback
- 79 series, including D791 and D792: pilot-operated servo valves for high flow rates
- Servo valves and servo-proportional valves for hydraulic control in general
- G-3LM6-048-00-00-01: an explosion-proof brushless servo motor, listed here under the G400K series
Within one series, valves differ in rated flow, spool lap, coil rating, seal material and pilot arrangement. Two G761 valves with different type numbers are therefore not interchangeable without checking.
Where Moog servo valves are used
Moog servo valves control steam and gas turbine fuel and steam actuators, compressor anti-surge and guide vane actuators, steel mill gauge control, injection molding and presses, and materials test machines. In GCC power stations and gas plants the usual request is a like-for-like valve for a turbine control actuator specified by the turbine builder.
Ordering Moog parts: what we need
The nameplate on a Moog servo valve shows the model, a type designation and a serial number. Please send all three, or a clear photo. The type designation fixes rated flow, maximum operating pressure, signal and coil data, seals and connector, and is the only safe basis for quoting. If the valve was supplied through a machine builder, also give the builder's own part number. State the hydraulic fluid, especially if it is a fire-resistant phosphate ester, since that decides the seal material. For Moog servo motors, send the full model string, as in the G400K example above, and the drive it runs with.
