Brand:

Tokyo Keiso SONICMAX UL3400 3-Beam Inline Ultrasonic Flowmeter

Description

Three-beam inline ultrasonic flowmeter for liquids from DN25 to DN2000

The Tokyo Keiso SONICMAX UL3400 is an inline ultrasonic flowmeter with three pairs of ultrasonic sensors. Measuring along three beams, together with a digital signal processor, gives stable readings from laminar to turbulent flow and reduces the influence of bubbles and particles. Because the principle does not depend on density, viscosity or electrical conductivity, Tokyo Keiso positions it for oil, solvents and other liquids, including as a replacement for turbine or positive-displacement meters.

The meter has no moving parts and no maintenance items in the flow path. A flanged measuring tube is available in 25 mm to 2000 mm nominal sizes; larger sizes are available on request. Compact and separate (remote converter) versions exist, and explosion-proof types are offered with TIIS approval and ATEX certification.

Ordering and selection notes

The model code builds a sensor specification code (nominal size, flange standard and rating, explosion-proof type, cable entry, tube and flange material) and a separate converter code. The catalogue example is a UL3400C compact meter with the two codes written out, and the order also needs the full-scale flow range, the converter display orientation (A, B or C) and the fluid name. Watertight cable glands for G1/2 and a third cable entry are listed as options, and a parameter sheet and instruction manual are standard.

Tokyo Keiso lists the conditions where an inline meter may be unsuitable: liquids with many bubbles (above about 2%), slurries or solids (above about 5 vol%) and strongly attenuating liquids such as acetic acid above 50%. When suitability is hard to judge, the company can arrange a preliminary test with a clamp-on flowmeter.

What to confirm before ordering

  • Fluid, temperature and pressure, to select compact, separate, extended-temperature or cryogenic construction.
  • Flange standard and rating, and tube and flange material for the line.
  • Hazardous-area requirement: TIIS or ATEX, which changes the model code and the ambient limits.
  • Required full-scale range inside the allowable velocity of 0.3 to 20 m/s.

How the Tokyo Keiso SONICMAX UL3400 works

Three pairs of sensors send ultrasonic pulses along three paths through the liquid. The pulses travel faster with the flow than against it. The converter measures the time difference on each path and turns it into a flow value.
