Spirax Sarco PC4000 Pipeline Connector for Swivel Steam Traps

Description

The Spirax Sarco PC4000 is a pipeline connector, the fixed half of a trap valve station for two-bolt universal swivel connector steam traps. It is a stainless steel block with two integral piston stop valves, one on each side of the trap position, and two depressurisation valves, so a trap can be isolated, depressurised, tested and removed without cutting pipe. A strainer screen in the trap port protects the trap from system dirt.

A trap station in one body

A conventional trap installation needs two isolation valves, a strainer, a test point, unions and a connection for the trap. The PC4000 puts these in one forged block. The two piston isolation valves close upstream and downstream of the universal connector face, so the trap can be removed once the line is isolated. The depressurisation valves let the trap cavity be vented and drained before the two bolts are loosened. The trap port carries a maintainable 40 mesh screen that can be cleared with line pressure.

The PC4000 carries no bypass: that is the PC4001. The PC40 has the two isolation valves but no drain or vent valves, so after isolation the trap bolts are loosened slightly to release steam and condensate before work.

Ratings and dimensions

The body is rated to ASME 600 class conditions: a maximum allowable pressure of 99.3 bar g at 38 C, and 425 C at 56 bar g, with a minimum of -46 C. The maximum operating pressure for saturated steam is 62 bar g at 279 C, and the cold hydraulic test pressure is 150 bar g. The data sheet reminds buyers that the limits of the whole assembly are set by the trap chosen, and that flange connections, if fitted, limit the connector. The unit is compact at 3.6 kg, with a 36 mm inlet offset B and a 124 mm height C in the metric dimension table.

Flow direction can be left to right or right to left; specify it when ordering. DN15 and DN20 connections are available with screwed BSP or NPT ends and socket weld ends to ASME B16.11 class 3000.

Installation and spares

Fit the connector in the direction of the arrow cast on the body; the connection face for the swivel connector trap must be in the vertical plane unless the trap instructions say otherwise, while flow may be horizontal, vertical or inclined. Insulate the connector to cut radiated losses and protect people from burns, noting that some trap types should not be insulated. Pipework from the line drain outlet is supplied by the customer and must be directed to a safe place.

Spares listed in the data sheet include the sealing ring set, piston valve assembly, depressurisation valve and gasket, strainer screen and gasket, and valve gasket set, with an extractor tool for the sealing rings.

Documents and quotation

The official Spirax Sarco technical information sheet TI-P128-33 is attached to this page; it covers the PC4001, PC4000 and PC40 models and holds the materials, pressure-temperature limits, dimensions and spares used above. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. To request a quotation for PC4000, send the model, size, end connection, any certification you need under EN 10204 and the quantity so the request can be matched to the data sheet before we reply.

Confirm the full order code, including any suffix, with your piping drawing before you order; similar codes are easy to mix up. Related items: product category.

About brand

Steam is the specialty of Spirax Sarco: how to generate it cleanly, distribute it, control it and get the condensate back. The company dates from 1888 and is based in Cheltenham, United Kingdom. Seven Star LLC lists Spirax Sarco clean steam equipment, bellows sealed stop valves, steam traps and steam flowmeters, and sources them for process plants, hospitals and food factories in Oman.

Spirax Sarco products listed here

The listing includes these main groups, along with further steam traps, pressure reducing valves and filters:

  • Clean steam and hygienic equipment: the CSG-HS clean steam generator, STERI-TROL clean service control valve, SRV66 sanitary pressure reducing valve, SVL488 clean service safety valve and the BT6-B balanced pressure thermostatic steam trap
  • Isolation valves: BSA and BSAT bellows sealed stop valves, the BSA3HP high pressure version, A3S and A3SS valves and the DBB3 double block and bleed valve
  • Steam metering: ILVA variable area flowmeter and the TVA and TFA target flowmeters

The STS17.2 steam-trapping station is a compact assembly for drain points.

Where Spirax Sarco steam equipment is used

Plant steam systems in refineries, chemical plants, laundries and food production use Spirax Sarco steam traps, stop valves and flowmeters for distribution and energy accounting. Clean steam products serve sterilizers, bioreactors, pharmaceutical water systems and food contact processes, where stainless steel wetted parts and documented surface finish are required. Requests from the GCC are often for a like-for-like trap or valve on an existing line.

Ordering Spirax Sarco parts: what we need

Give the product type (for example BSA3T or BT6-B), nominal size, end connection and its standard (flanged PN or ASME class, screwed, butt weld or sanitary clamp), body material and the operating pressure and temperature. For steam traps add the condensate load and differential pressure. For Spirax Sarco flowmeters send line size, steam pressure and the flow range, plus the display or flow computer required. On clean steam items, state the surface finish and the material certificates you need. A nameplate photo helps where the type is not known.
