NOSHOK PTI20 Intelligent Pressure Transmitter with Display

A programmable stainless pressure transmitter with an on-board display

The NOSHOK PTI20 Series is an intelligent industrial pressure transmitter. Instead of buying a fixed range, you pick one of six adjustable range families, from 5 psig to 1,150 psig, and set the actual span with three push buttons on the built-in display, or with HART when the HART option is ordered. A 4:1 turn down is quoted, with accuracy of 0.2% of adjusted span and stability better than 0.1% per year.

The housing is 304 stainless steel (316 optional), wetted parts are 316 stainless steel (Hastelloy C or tantalum optional) and IP66 protection is standard, with IP68 optional. The datasheet lists general industrial, pulp and paper, water and wastewater, power generation and food and beverage applications.

Example: PTI20-5psig-1-1-8-28-CC: PTI20 series, 5 psig range family, accuracy code 1 (0.2% of adjusted span), output code 1 (4-20 mA), process connection 8 (1/2 inch NPT male), electrical connection 28 (1/2 inch NPT female) and CC (certified calibration).

Uninstalled accessories in the datasheet include 1.5, 2 and 3 inch ANSI 150 flanges, 1 inch and 1.5 inch PMC weld adapters, a PTFE gasket for 1.5 inch PMC and FKM o-rings for 1 inch PMC.

Selection and use

• Choose the smallest range family that covers your maximum pressure, then use the push buttons to rescale within the 4:1 turn down.
• Order the HART option if the loop needs digital configuration; otherwise the push buttons do the same job locally.
• Use the flange or PMC versions for tanks, slurries and sanitary points.
• Wire: terminal 1 carries supply and output, terminal 2 is internal ground; the M12 connector uses pin 1 for V+ and pin 3 for V-.

Applications in Oman and the GCC

Water and wastewater plants, power generation auxiliaries, desalination chemical lines, food and beverage and general plant utilities are the natural fits. IP66 suits dust and washdown. The ambient limit of 70 C means hot-site installations should shade the head or use the remote mount option.

How the adjustable range works in practice

Because each family has a minimum and maximum span, the same hardware can serve several loops. For example, a 145psig unit can be set to a 29 psi span for a pump discharge or a full 145 psi span for a boiler feed line, and a 350psig unit covers spans from 87 to 350 psi. The lowest vacuum figure in the table (15 psig below zero, or 5.8 psig on the smallest family) shows how far the zero can be moved into vacuum. The datasheet quotes 4:1 turn down, so rescaling beyond that will reduce accuracy; choose the family whose maximum span is close to your actual maximum pressure. Display, adjustment and HART share the same electronics, and the transparent cover option lets operators read the display without opening the housing. The datasheet lists a 10 year service life.

Selection and installation notes

A pressure instrument is selected from the pressure range, the process media and the connection. Choose a range so that the normal operating pressure lies in the middle of the scale, check that the wetted materials suit the fluid, use the correct seal and thread, fit an isolation valve or snubber where pulsation or surges occur and mount the instrument where it can be read and serviced. Never exceed the overpressure limit on the data sheet, and keep a record of calibration.

Set the span with the buttons or with HART at commissioning, check the zero at atmospheric pressure and record the final range.
