JUMO VIBROtemp 902040 Vibration-Resistant Screw-In RTD Probe with Plug Connector

Description

A vibration-resistant screw-in Pt100 for engines, compressors and vehicles

The JUMO VIBROtemp (type 902040) is a screw-in RTD temperature probe with a plug connector for measuring temperature reliably under vibration. JUMO lists commercial vehicles, construction and agricultural machinery, motors, compressors and railway technology as its application areas. The vibration-resistant construction gives excellent long-term stability in tough operating conditions, and the protection tube is stepped down to 4 mm to keep response times short: in water at 0.4 m/s the datasheet gives t0.5 of 1.2 s and t0.9 of 6 s.

Four basic types differ in the connector: 902040/10 with an AMP plug connector (Junior Power Timer, IP67), 902040/12 with an M12 x 1 machine connector (IP67), 902040/15 with a bayonet connector to DIN 72585 (IP69/IP69K) and 902040/17 with a Bosch compact connector 1.1 (IP69/IP69K). The measuring insert is a Pt100 to DIN EN 60751:2009 / IEC 60751:2008, class B, in 2-wire circuit; Pt500, Pt1000, PTC or NTC elements are possible on request.

Selecting the VIBROtemp connector, element and material

Order code: basic type – operating temperature – measuring insert – tolerance class – tube diameter – insertion length – process connection – tube material / extra code. The example in the datasheet is 902040/10 – 387 – 1003 – 1 – 7.5 – 29 – 121 – 20 / 000. Select the connector first, because it fixes the protection rating: choose 902040/15 or /17 where high-pressure washdown (IP69K) is expected, and /10 or /12 where IP67 is enough. The M12 version is the one that JUMO pairs with its dTRANS T09 cable transmitter for 4 to 20 mA or IO-Link output.

Code Meaning
370 -50 to +150 degC
387 -50 to +270 degC (temporarily 300 degC)
20 / 46 Tube in stainless steel / brass
658 SIL and PL compatible with safety limiter 70115X
1160 H2 ready, mobile hydrogen application

A mating coupling is needed for each connector type and is listed in data sheet 909760. Special versions with other lengths, wall thickness, thread types or extension tubes can be made to order.

Installation, sealing and where vibration matters

Screw the probe into an M14 x 1.5 port using the hex on the body, then lock the coupling; the datasheet states that the connectors are locked to ensure contact. The IP67/IP69 ratings apply only when the coupling is plugged in. Brass tubes cost less and suit oil, coolant and air circuits, whereas stainless steel suits more aggressive media. The wall of the 4 mm tip limits mechanical strength, so check the pressure and flow loading of the application.

Typical points of measurement are engine coolant and oil, compressor discharge, hydraulic tanks, gearboxes, generator sets and rail traction equipment, which are common on mobile plant and standby power in the Gulf. A Pt100 element gives a standard resistance signal to a controller input or transmitter; for SIL applications use extra code 658 with the named JUMO safety temperature limiter or monitor. Choose the 2-wire circuit only when the cable run is short, or correct the lead resistance in the instrument.

Many details of the housing support the vibration claim. The tube is stepped from 7.5 mm to 4 mm over an insertion length of 29 mm, which keeps mass low at the tip, and the process thread is M14 x 1.5 with a thread undercut that can be modified in special versions. Customer-specific features include insertion length, wall thickness, thread type, material and an extension tube. The connector types accept mating couplings from data sheet 909760. For the SIL and PL option, JUMO states compatibility with the safety temperature limiter and monitor of the 70115X series only.

About brand

Temperature measurement is the origin of JUMO, founded in 1948 in Fulda, Germany, as a maker of glass thermometers. Today the catalog covers sensors and transmitters for temperature, pressure, level and liquid analysis, plus controllers and recorders. Seven Star LLC lists JUMO RTD probes, pressure and differential pressure transmitters, pH, conductivity, turbidity and dissolved oxygen instruments, and sources them for plants in Oman.

JUMO product families listed

JUMO uses family names that recur across the catalog:

  • dTRANS: transmitters, including dTRANS T01 and T100 for temperature, dTRANS p02 DELTA for differential pressure, and dTRANS pH 02 and CR 02 for liquid analysis
  • Wtrans: wireless probes and transmitters, such as Wtrans T for RTD temperature and Wtrans p for pressure
  • digiLine and ecoLine: digital and optical analysis sensors, for example the digiLine O-DO S10 dissolved oxygen sensor and the ecoLine NTU turbidity sensor
  • NESOS: float-based level transmitters and switches
  • RTD temperature probes: screw-in types such as 902030 and mineral-insulated designs

Where JUMO sensors are used

JUMO sensors and transmitters are typical of food and beverage lines, water and wastewater treatment, pharmaceutical utilities, heating and cooling systems, and packaged machinery supplied to the GCC by European builders. Many requests are for a like-for-like replacement of a probe fitted by the machine maker, where length, thread and connector have to match exactly.

Ordering JUMO parts: what we need

JUMO identifies each product group by a six-digit type number, such as 902030, followed by an order code that fixes the options. The label of the delivered item normally carries a part number as well. Send whichever you have, ideally both, or a photo of the label. For JUMO temperature probes add insertion length, diameter, process connection, sensor type and wiring. For JUMO pressure sensors state range, output, process connection and electrical connector. For analysis sensors name the transmitter they connect to and the cable length.
