Ubiquiti USW-Flex 5-Port PoE+ Compact Switch, -40 to 65 C
Description
The Ubiquiti USW-Flex is a compact five-port Gigabit PoE switch that can itself be powered by PoE. Four ports provide PoE+ output, up to 25 W each and 46 W in total when the switch is fed by a PoE++ source or a 60 W adapter. It weighs 230 g.
Its operating range of -40 to 55 C at 46 W output, or -40 to 65 C at 25 W, is wider than most UniFi switches.
A small switch for remote drops
The USW-Flex is used where a single cable run arrives and several devices must be connected: a camera mast, a gate, a corridor ceiling or a desk. It takes PoE in on one port and passes PoE+ out on four, so a PoE++ source can feed the switch plus a few cameras or access points. UniFi lists desktop, wall and pole mounting, with pole mounting needing the USW-Flex-Utility accessory.
Features from the datasheet and tech specs
- 5 x GbE RJ45; 4 ports PoE+ out
- Powered by PoE (44-57 V), PoE+ or PoE++ (50-57 V), or by a 50 V 60 W PoE adapter that is not included
- Total PoE output depends on input: PoE++ or 60 W adapter 46 W; PoE+ 20 W; PoE 8 W (tech specs)
- Polycarbonate enclosure; 122.5 x 107.1 x 28 mm
- 5 Gbps non-blocking throughput; 10 Gbps switching; 7 Mpps
- Operating temperature -40 to 65 C at 25 W output
- ESD protection air and contact plus or minus 16 kV

Power input decides the output
The same switch behaves differently depending on its source. On plain PoE input the PoE budget available for downstream devices is 8 W, on PoE+ it is 20 W and on PoE++ or the 60 W adapter it is 46 W (tech specs). Check the upstream port class and cable length before assuming four powered devices will run.
Budget example (derived): on a PoE++ source, two cameras at 12 W each and one access point at 13 W total 37 W, within the 46 W available. On a plain PoE source only 8 W is available downstream, so that same 13 W access point would not be supported.
Installation and operation
Connect the uplink to a PoE-capable port or power it by adapter, plug in downstream devices and adopt the switch in UniFi Network. The datasheet states status, Ethernet, PoE and link LEDs. Use a surge-protected, weather-sheltered location: the tech specs page lists no outdoor rating, so shelter it inside an enclosure when used outside.
GCC applications
Its wide temperature range suits shaded outdoor cabinets, site cabins and ceiling voids in hot climates. Typical uses are CCTV clusters at gates, access points in corridors and temporary site offices.
Selection and installation notes
Plan the network device from the site layout and the load it will carry. Check the power source and the PoE budget, the port speeds and uplinks, the operating temperature range and the mounting position, keep a margin on the number of clients and cameras, and set a strong administrator password when the device is first adopted into the management system. Back up the configuration after commissioning and record the firmware version.
Before ordering, compare the ratings on the data sheet with the project specification, check the connection sizes and the supply conditions, and confirm which accessories, spares and documents travel with the unit. On delivery, inspect the packing, compare the nameplate with the order and keep the manual with the site records so that later commissioning and maintenance work can follow the maker instructions. Ask us if any detail is unclear and we will check it with the supplier before the order is placed.
Information needed for a quotation
Send the full model code, the quantity, the delivery location in Oman or the GCC, the intended use and any accessories needed, so that the complete package can be quoted together.
Documents and supply information
The manufacturer data sheet is attached to this page and should be read together with the project specification and the site risk assessment before a purchase is confirmed. Ratings, standards and dimensions are quoted as printed on that sheet. Lead time, stock position and certificates available with the shipment are confirmed in the quotation, and we supply to Oman and the wider GCC region for industrial, utility and building services projects.
