Caprari P Series Vertical Lineshaft Pumps, P6P and P8P

Description

Vertical lineshaft pumps for wells, tanks and fire-fighting

The Caprari P series is a family of vertical lineshaft pumps with mixed-flow hydraulics. The leaflet (code 996097B/06-17) describes them as suited to water supply pipelines, industrial water circulation, water supply for civil and irrigation purposes, and fire-fighting systems. The listing here covers the P6P and P8P, the 6 inch and 8 inch sizes, for which the leaflet prints flow up to 50 l/s, head up to 220 m and power up to 92 kW, with 2-pole and 4-pole drives.

The assembly is built from four parts: the pump casing, a riser pipe enclosing the lineshaft, a drive unit with discharge head, and a baseplate. On request the discharge connection, normally above installation level, can be formed straight from the riser pipe below installation level. The pump can be installed in wells, tanks, dry chambers and pressurized tanks, with the pump casing permanently submerged in the liquid.

Key features from the leaflet

  • Riser made of flanged pipe sections that house the drive shaft, protected by a coated bushing at the bearings, which are lubricated by the lifted liquid.
  • Balanced impellers for vibration-free operation, with the rotor supported at the ends by generously sized wear-resistant rubber bearings; each stage casing has a rubber bearing able to withstand the abrasive action of sand.
  • Strainer on the suction port to keep foreign bodies out; the bowl assembly normally needs a foot valve to keep the riser pipe filled and the bearings lubricated.
  • P6P and P8P: bearings with stainless steel spring core and an easy-to-disassemble design, maximum solids content of 80 g/m3, and impeller trimming so performance is guaranteed at the duty point.
  • P6P and P8P: swing check valve integrated with the intake support, which ensures bearing lubrication during the starting phase.
  • P6P and P8P: DEFENDER anticorrosion device, described in the leaflet as a patented device giving complete resistance to corrosion, and next-generation casting for a smooth, seamless surface.

The leaflet states that the standard-version materials are only indicative, because the choice of construction materials depends on the application; no material table is printed, so confirm materials with the pump enquiry.

Selection and drive choice

Select the pump from flow, head and well or tank depth. The leaflet notes that the total head can be changed appreciably by turning the impellers to another diameter or by changing the number of stages, so the same family covers different duty points. Choose the drive unit by the prime mover available.

  • E series: vertical electric motors to UNEL-IEC, V1 flange.
  • R-RR series: right-angle gearboxes with a high safety factor, available as mixed drives with double shaft projection and with step-up or step-down gears; gears and bearings are lubricated by oil pressurised by a screw pump and cooled by a dedicated device.
  • M-MR series: right-angle gear with step-up gear connectable to a power take-off by a driveline.
  • VG-VP series: vertical pulley head with standard V-belts or flat belt pulleys, for coupling to internal combustion engines.

Installation and operation notes

Keep the casing permanently submerged. Because the impellers are submerged, the leaflet says the pump needs no priming device, which makes it suitable for automatic and remote-controlled operation, in particular for fire-fighting service. The non-reverse device on every drive unit is described as essential in automatically controlled plants, to avoid starting with the pump counter-rotating while the riser empties. In a machine room the installation takes minimum space, which the leaflet links to lower civil works cost.

Applications in GCC industries

Deep-well abstraction for municipal and agricultural water, industrial cooling and process water circulation, and irrigation are the matching uses. Where a diesel engine or a tractor power take-off drives the pump, as in remote farms or standby fire-water duty, the right-angle and pulley heads cover it. The leaflet prints no fire-pump approval (UL, FM or EN 12845), no ATEX rating and no seawater material, so none is claimed; for brackish well water or seawater ask for the material selection before ordering.

Selection and installation notes

Select a pump from the duty point: the flow, the head, the liquid and its temperature, the supply voltage and the expected operating hours. Check the electrical supply and cable size against the motor rating, install the pump as the manual shows on a firm base with pipework that does not strain the ports, protect the motor against overload and dry running, and fit non-return and isolation valves in the delivery line. Keep the installation and commissioning record, and plan routine inspection of seals, bearings and wear parts.

A vertical lineshaft pump needs a rigid foundation, correct alignment of the column and shaft and enough submergence at the suction.

Information needed for a quotation

Send the full model code, the quantity, the delivery location in Oman or the GCC, the intended use and any accessories needed, so that the complete package can be quoted together.

Documents and supply information

The manufacturer data sheet is attached to this page and should be read together with the project specification and the site risk assessment before a purchase is confirmed. Ratings, standards and dimensions are quoted as printed on that sheet. Lead time, stock position and certificates available with the shipment are confirmed in the quotation, and we supply to Oman and the wider GCC region for industrial, utility and building services projects.

About brand

Caprari is an Italian pump manufacturer, founded in 1945 by Amadio Caprari as Idromeccanica Caprari and headquartered in Modena. By 1950 it was building vertical lineshaft pumps, in 1968 it produced its first submersible deep-well pump, and from the 1970s it opened subsidiaries abroad. The Italian investment firm Ambienta acquired Caprari in February 2021.
