Basler Electric DGC-2020 Digital Genset Controller

Description

Genset control, metering and protection in a single panel unit

The Basler Electric DGC-2020 is an integrated genset control system that combines genset control, transfer switch control, metering, protection and programmable logic. Basler describes it as simple, easy to use, reliable, rugged and cost effective, and it replaces the usual collection of relays, meters and small PLCs on a standby or prime-power set.

It reads three-phase mains as well as generator quantities, talks to the engine ECU over SAE J1939, and its programmable I/O can be extended with CEM-2020 and AEM-2020 modules instead of external PLCs. The Offline Simulator in BESTlogicPlus lets engineers test logic without hardware.

DGC-2020 functions

  • Generator metering including three-phase mains; automatic generator configuration detection
  • Standard protection 27, 32R, 40Q, 59, 81O/U; optional 47, 51, 78 and 81 ROCOF
  • Automatic transfer switch control, exercise timer and optional automatic synchronizer
  • SAE J1939 engine ECU communications; engine protection for oil pressure, coolant temperature, overcrank and ECU-specific elements
  • Sixteen programmable contact inputs; up to 15 outputs (3 rated 30 Adc and up to 12 programmable 2 Adc)
  • Expansion with CEM-2020 and AEM-2020; remote RDP-110 display; multilingual capability

Choosing between DGC-2020 variants

The DGC-2020 is the base model for a single set with mains monitoring or transfer-switch duty. If the set must be paralleled, load shared or run on multiple buses, Basler points to the DGC-2020HD; for emergency and stand-alone sets it lists the DGC-2020ES. Specify 12 or 24 Vdc battery, the 50/60 Hz or 400 Hz voltage-sensing style, and whether the optional enhanced protection (47, 51, 78, ROCOF), synchronizer or RS-485 port is needed. The style chart in the datasheet sets these; give us the style code and engine make for the ECU link.

Installation and operation notes

Mount in a panel cut-out; the front panel is IP54. Wire the magnetic pickup or take speed from the ECU, connect resistive senders if the engine has no ECU data, and use the CAN port for J1939. Configure with BESTCOMSPlus over the USB port, using BESTlogicPlus for sequences. Provide the RDP-110C remote display where NFPA 110 annunciation is a requirement, with the 1,219 m wiring limit in mind.

Where the DGC-2020 is used

Typical duties are standby and prime-power sets and automatic mains failure systems at industrial, process and facility sites. The datasheet shows an operating range of -40 C to 70 C and a salt fog test, which helps in hot, coastal enclosures, though panel placement away from direct sun remains good practice.

Selection and care notes

Before ordering, confirm the engine type, the ECU protocol, the number of current transformers and the transfer switch arrangement. Programming with the supplied software lets the logic be tested offline, and the settings should be backed up after commissioning. Check the battery supply range and the wiring of the sensing inputs, since faults in wiring are a common reason for commissioning delays.

Information needed for a quotation

Send the full model code, the quantity, the delivery location in Oman or the GCC, the machine or system it will control and any accessories or software needed, so that the complete package can be quoted together.
