VEGA VEGACAP 62 Capacitive Rod Point Level Switch up to 6 m

Description

A shortenable capacitive rod switch for solids and liquids

The VEGACAP 62 is VEGA’s partly insulated capacitive rod electrode for point level detection in all areas of industry, suitable for bulk solids and liquids. Sensor and vessel form the two plates of a capacitor, and the oscillator evaluates the capacitance change when product covers the rod. The switching point is set on the electronics module with a potentiometer, with DIL switches for measuring range and mode, and a signal lamp shows the switching status. Probe length is up to 6 m, and the rod can be shortened on site, which VEGA lists as a flexibility benefit along with a proven mechanical construction.

Setting the switching point

Unlike the VEGACAL continuous sensors, a VEGACAP is adjusted at the electronics module: a potentiometer adapts the switching point, one DIL switch selects the measuring range with a compensation button, and another selects the mode (for example min or max). A signal lamp shows the state. This is deliberate for point level duty, where a technician walks up to the sensor and tunes it by hand, and it avoids any need for software or a PC.

Mounting rules

VEGA’s mounting notes say a VEGACAP can be installed in any position. In horizontal installation the probe must sit at the height of the requested switching point, and in vertical installation the probe should be immersed approximately 50 to 100 mm in the product when covered. In a metal vessel the probe is grounded through the process fitting, so insulating tape or non-conductive seals on the thread can disturb it; in plastic vessels a counter electrode is needed. Please tell us the vessel material, probe length, fitting and output when you ask for a quote.

The housing options are plastic, stainless steel or aluminium, and the electronics are offered as transistor output, contactless electronic switch, relay output and a two-wire version for connection to a signal conditioning instrument. The sheet describes the contactless electronic switch version with a switching delay of 0.7 s on and off, which filters sloshing, and a load current of 10 to 400 mA that can drive a contactor coil or a relay directly from a 20 to 253 V supply.

About brand

VEGA is a German maker of level and pressure instruments. Bruno Grieshaber founded the company in 1959 in Triberg in the Black Forest, and it has been based in Schiltach since 1975, still family owned as VEGA Grieshaber KG. VEGA is best known for radar level sensors: it introduced the first two-wire radar level sensor in 1997 and the first 80 GHz radar sensor for bulk solids, the VEGAPULS 69, in 2015.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing VEGA radar and guided wave radar transmitters, point level switches, pressure transmitters and signal conditioning instruments for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Sensors are matched from the product code on the type label.

Where VEGA instruments are used

VEGA radar sensors measure level in crude oil and product tanks, separators, chemical reactors, cement and aggregate silos, grain stores and water reservoirs. Compact cable radars are widely used in wastewater pumping stations and flood monitoring. Because 80 GHz radar focuses a narrow beam, it can measure past internal structures in a tank, and it is not affected by the temperature, pressure or vapour above the product, which suits hot Gulf storage tanks.

Ordering VEGA instruments: what we need

The product code on the type label (for example PS64.XXXXXXX) fixes the measuring range, antenna or probe, process connection, electronics and approvals. Send it with the serial number. For a new measurement add the medium and its dielectric constant if known, tank or silo height and internals, process pressure and temperature, process connection, output (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS PA, Modbus or IO-Link), and any hazardous-area or overfill protection approval required.
