VEGA VEGAWAVE 61 Tuning Fork Level Switch for Powders

Description

A tuning fork switch for very light, adhesive or abrasive powders

The VEGAWAVE 61 is VEGA’s tuning-fork level switch for powders and fine-grained bulk solids. Where the VEGAVIB rod detects solids from 0.02 g/cm³, the VEGAWAVE fork reaches down to 0.008 g/cm³ and is, per the product information, very rugged and insensitive to buildup, which VEGA says makes it ideal for adhesive and abrasive products and bulk solids of very low density. The specification sheet describes the compact relay (DPDT) version with 20…253 V AC or 20…72 V DC supply, a process pressure of -1 to +25 bar and temperatures from -50 to +250 °C.

Fork versus rod in practice

VEGA’s own comparison is the useful guide: the fork detects very light solids from 0.008 g/cm³ and is rugged against buildup, whereas the rod is the choice where granules might otherwise jam between fork tines. The thread starts at G1½, so the nozzle needs to be larger than for a VEGAVIB, which uses threads from 1″.

Ordering and approvals

The housing, electronics (relay, transistor, contactless switch, two-wire and NAMUR) and the plug connector are all selectable, and the PLICSLED module can show the switching status through a transparent lid. Product information lists approval status, and the optional SIL2 qualification applies to the version described. Provide product, density, temperature, pressure, thread or flange and output when you request a quotation, and confirm hazardous-area marking before ordering.

As with other series 60 switches, the status can be seen on site with the PLICSLED display module, and the housings are offered in plastic, stainless steel and aluminium. The sheet states that the instruments are suitable for use in hazardous areas and approved, for example, according to ATEX and IEC, with the exact approvals depending on the version. The pressure rating of 25 bar and the 250 °C limit with temperature adapter are the highest in the VEGAVIB and VEGAWAVE 60 series, which is why the compact fork is the usual candidate when the vessel is pressurised or hot and the product is a light powder; confirm the exact process fitting and seal for your pressure class.

About brand

VEGA is a German maker of level and pressure instruments. Bruno Grieshaber founded the company in 1959 in Triberg in the Black Forest, and it has been based in Schiltach since 1975, still family owned as VEGA Grieshaber KG. VEGA is best known for radar level sensors: it introduced the first two-wire radar level sensor in 1997 and the first 80 GHz radar sensor for bulk solids, the VEGAPULS 69, in 2015.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing VEGA radar and guided wave radar transmitters, point level switches, pressure transmitters and signal conditioning instruments for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Sensors are matched from the product code on the type label.

Where VEGA instruments are used

VEGA radar sensors measure level in crude oil and product tanks, separators, chemical reactors, cement and aggregate silos, grain stores and water reservoirs. Compact cable radars are widely used in wastewater pumping stations and flood monitoring. Because 80 GHz radar focuses a narrow beam, it can measure past internal structures in a tank, and it is not affected by the temperature, pressure or vapour above the product, which suits hot Gulf storage tanks.

Ordering VEGA instruments: what we need

The product code on the type label (for example PS64.XXXXXXX) fixes the measuring range, antenna or probe, process connection, electronics and approvals. Send it with the serial number. For a new measurement add the medium and its dielectric constant if known, tank or silo height and internals, process pressure and temperature, process connection, output (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS PA, Modbus or IO-Link), and any hazardous-area or overfill protection approval required.
