VEGA VEGASWING 66 Vibrating Level Switch -196 to +450 °C
Description
The vibrating switch for cryogenic and high-temperature liquids
The VEGASWING 66 is the extreme-service member of VEGA’s vibrating level switches: a universal switch for all liquids with process temperatures from -196 to +450 °C and pressures up to 160 bar, in compact version or with tube extension. VEGA says it is used as empty or full detector in vessels and steam generators. An inductive drive energises the 40 mm tuning fork and wetted parts are 316L stainless steel and Inconel 718. The sheet covers the NPN/PNP transistor version, and the family also has relay and two-wire versions.

Cryogenic and hot duty
At -196 °C the switch serves liquefied gases such as nitrogen, and at +450 °C it serves heat-transfer oils and steam drums where a float or capacitance switch would fail. The product information lists the tube length as 260 to 3000 mm and says all VEGASWING electronics are qualified for overfill and dry-run protection to IEC 61508/61511. For extremely hot media the process fitting and sealing details change, so the configurator should be checked for the fitting on your vessel.
Installation notes
The mounting rules for the VEGASWING series apply: place the fork at the height of the desired switching point, orient the fork edge parallel to flow, keep out of the filling stream, and do not use an overly long tube where an agitator exists. A flanged connection is typical at these pressures. Provide your medium, temperature, pressure, tube length, fitting and electrical output when requesting a quote, and confirm any SIL or Ex requirement with the manufacturer.
At the extremes of temperature the nozzle needs attention: a cryogenic vessel with a long cold neck and a hot oil system with insulation both mean the housing must remain in its ambient range of -40 to +70 °C, so insulation and any temperature-adapter extension should be agreed with the manufacturer. The Inconel 718 fork gives corrosion and strength at high temperature, and the instrument is stated to be unaffected by product properties, which makes it a robust alternative to float switches in steam drums.
Documents and quotation
The official VEGA VEGASWING 66 (transistor NPN/PNP) specification sheet (44274-EN, version 190926) is attached to this page for download and covers the technical data, dimensions and wiring summarised above.
Your enquiry should state the process connection, medium, pressure and temperature, signal and approvals needed. Seven Star LLC, an independent Muscat supplier, will then quote it; see also our level instrumentation range. Verify the full configuration against the manufacturer’s documents before ordering.

About brand
VEGA is a German maker of level and pressure instruments. Bruno Grieshaber founded the company in 1959 in Triberg in the Black Forest, and it has been based in Schiltach since 1975, still family owned as VEGA Grieshaber KG. VEGA is best known for radar level sensors: it introduced the first two-wire radar level sensor in 1997 and the first 80 GHz radar sensor for bulk solids, the VEGAPULS 69, in 2015.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing VEGA radar and guided wave radar transmitters, point level switches, pressure transmitters and signal conditioning instruments for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Sensors are matched from the product code on the type label.

Where VEGA instruments are used
VEGA radar sensors measure level in crude oil and product tanks, separators, chemical reactors, cement and aggregate silos, grain stores and water reservoirs. Compact cable radars are widely used in wastewater pumping stations and flood monitoring. Because 80 GHz radar focuses a narrow beam, it can measure past internal structures in a tank, and it is not affected by the temperature, pressure or vapour above the product, which suits hot Gulf storage tanks.
Ordering VEGA instruments: what we need
The product code on the type label (for example PS64.XXXXXXX) fixes the measuring range, antenna or probe, process connection, electronics and approvals. Send it with the serial number. For a new measurement add the medium and its dielectric constant if known, tank or silo height and internals, process pressure and temperature, process connection, output (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS PA, Modbus or IO-Link), and any hazardous-area or overfill protection approval required.
